Default I feel like I'm loosing power

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like I'm loosing a lot of power when I open up my cutout, especially in the lower rpm range. I feel like my torque has gone to $h!t. Any ideas? BTW, car is a 2001 WS6 A4. Also when the car shifts, it sounds like big fart coming out of the cutout.

I think it's pretty well agreed that less backpressure hurts low end torque...

(Plus, to me hearing an engine scream when you are barely giving it gas gives the impression that it is slower... Maybe that's just me!)

i agree with tommy. when i gutted my cat, i was warned that iit would screw up the backpressure and cost me a lot. turns out it didn't. too much or not enough backpressure can kill the horsepower

Well if I'm loosing backpressure, and that's causing me to loose torque, then what good is a cutout, other than to be loud. Am I gaining anything at all in performance by having it open, or am I just hurting my ears and wasing my money?

The only way to know that for you is to do several back to back runs at the track, capped and uncapped.

Loose = not tight

You're losing power, not loosing it

I have a cut out and went .15 faster at the track. I do have LS1edit and tuned for it, so I'm not running too rich.

you'll lose bottom end power but gain on the top end. I have gained 20 RWHP on the dyno with an open cutout, this was from a stock exhaust.

Not sure why some may lose bottom end power, but I sure didn't. My 60' was 1.95 to 2.1 before I had the cut out. Now it is a consistent 1.8s and a couple 1.7s. The computers in the 2001s and up seem to be more sensitive to change. You really can’t do back to back pulls opening and closing the cutout or any other like changes. At least on my car, it wants to learn the changes made for a few miles before you can compare. I bracket raced every week for 2 years with many many trips down the track. First in my 1999 Firehawk and then in my 2001 Firehawk. The 1999 didn’t act the same why. It loved all the changes I made right away.
