Default serious brake issue tonight...questions.

I was getting off of it after running a built Sti and went to tap my brakes and the pedal went real far and then just got rock hard and I wasn't stopping...at all. had to throw it in 2nd to slow down it was very scary thank god nothing happened. afterwards burnt brakes were smelt and the rotors were extremely hot.

curious as to what would cause this? it has never happened before, car has been tracked 1/8th and nothing, brakes aren't to old either.

any clue what caused this?

I hit my brakes at no more than 80 mph....

was your brake pressure light on? if your brakes got really hot sounds lik one of the calipers or two of the calipers may not be doin there job correctly try and diagnose if it is the rears or fronts becase our cars work on two sepereate brake systems for safety incase the front goes out the rears work and vise versa, if you said your brakes got hot do u know if it was the fronts or rears?

Check your master cylinder and booster. Same thing happened to a friend of mine on his 05 GT mustang, and his booster took a **** on him. But it was prolly on its way out cuz the car was totalled when he bought it.

I would check to see if there are any blockages in the master cylinder, and if not and its still doing this i would try replacing it. Not really sure how do diagnose it but thats what i can tell you. Also if that doesnt fix it next up is the brake booster, and i have no idea how to troubleshoot it, but i will tell you DO NOT take it apart! Just take it in and replace it. Check autozone or advances websites to get an idea as to how much those parts cost.

Hope that helps..

to diagnose power booster u mak sure all air is out of the booster by pumpig it with the car off and then keep ur foot on the brake and start the car! the pedel should immediatly go down if it doesent that is your booster

if your brakes were hot, i would say you have a caliper sticking. when you had the rotors resufaced did you change the fluid. most people dont do this because its not something thats done often. that could be one of your problems.

this could be caused from the vacuum line on the booster which doesnt happen usually but can. also i would bleed my brakes and not just 3 times but a lot. my buddy did his own brakes and he forgot to bleed them ( they were doing the same thing that you said yours did), he finally did but he did it only three times thinkin he got all the air out. i went back and bled them and it took me any where from 15 to 20 times to get all the air out. maybe air is a problem. let me know what you find.
