Default New Fast Toys 85mm Air Lid ---> Track Testing

This past weekend we took a customer's car to the drag strip to do some testing on our new air 85mm lid. This was a bolt on car with a mild 224/224 cam. It still has the stock intake manifold and TB. The car was running an aftermarket air lid and a Fast Toys Ported MAF which the car was tuned to use.

This wasn't the ideal car for testing our lid (we wanted a head/cam or stroker) but the car is super consistent and the customer was kind enough to let us use it (thanks again if you are reading this).

We are more concerned with MPH than ET since MPH stays the same regardless of the launch or shifts. Our testing was cut short as it started to rain in the afternoon.

Base runs with aftermarket air lid and Fast Toys Ported MAF:

Run 1: 111.37 MPH
IAT start temp: 70 F
IAT end temp: 66 F

Run 2: 111.37 MPH
IAT start temp: 70 F
IAT end temp: 68 F

Run 3: 111.09 MPH
IAT start temp: 72 F
IAT end temp: 70 F
note: temperature starting to rise along with humidity

Install Fast Toys 85mm Air Lid and 85mm MAF:

Run 1: 112.24 MPH
IAT start temp: 73 F
IAT end temp: 72 F

Run 2: 112.24 MPH
IAT start temp: 81 F
IAT end temp: 75 F
note: temperature up 11 F over first runs and humidity up even more. It rains a few mins after this run.

Analysis:

We picked up approximately a solid .9 MPH with the Fast Toys 85 mm Air Lid despite increasing temperatures and humidity. We were very happy considering the car was already running the highest flowing air lid we have tested along with a ported MAF that flowed as well as an 85mm screened MAF with the reduction coupler to work on the stock lid!

Always look at your log scans!

We logged every run at the track but didn't look carefully between runs other than to ensure we had no knock retard. That was a big mistake! Although we did recalibrate the MAF table for the 85mm MAF (which you have to do), we assumed we would see the exact same timing table which we never changed. That turned out to be a big mistake which no doubt cost us ever further gains!

The runs with the aftermarket air lid and ported MAF were seeing 28 - 29.5 degrees of timing at WOT with no knock retard. The runs with the Fast Toys 85mm air lid and MAF were only seeing 22 - 24.5 degrees of timing. Oops! We neglected to consider that the new MAF would be operating in a different portion of the high octane timing table and did not correct the table to ensure we saw the same amount of timing. Had we done that, we would have doubt seen much larger improvements!

Bench Testing:

There was lots of bench testing during our build process to ensure our air lid was going to flow better than what currently existed on the market:

This data is right out the exit of the lid with no MAF attached:

We also wanted to ensure we significantly increased the internal volume of the air lid to support higher HP motors:

Stock Lid Volume (baffles removed): 2850 cc
Aftermarket Air Lid Volume: 3350 cc
Fast Toys 85mm Air Lid : 3900 cc

Unfortunately our track is now closed for the season but we have quite a few lids on their way to customers for them to install on some head/cam and stroker stroker motors. We'll post results when we get them

I almost got an SLP lid the other day. I'm probably the only one left that doesn't have an aftermarket lid. I will be buying yours though. It looks like it's the same deck height as the slp just this on has the extra raised portion in the middle. Do you have a picture of the underside? Also, do you recommend using a bellow with your lid? If anything it looks badass. Do you have a I'm in Iraq discount

Yes, you need an 85mm MAF to use this new lid. Smooth bellows can be used with the lid but I can't see it making that much of an improvement. Since you need custom tuning with an 85mm MAF it would be a good idea to do with your cam install.

Sorry but we cannot do any discounts on the lids right now. We have so much invested in development on these ones and they cater to a much smaller market.

Thanks!

You can run an SLP 85mm MAF or a GM Delphi 85mm MAF. You will need LS1EDIT, HP Tuners etc to edit the MAF table accordingly.

I'm still trying to figure out if I want to run a maf or not. Currently mine is unplugged as I'm trying to fine tune my VE tables after swapping to a ported FAST 90/90 combo. I may just pick up the new lid and a couple that will fit in between the two and call it a day.

One question about your data table, what do those numbers represent? CFM @ ??? Hg

Just trying to understand since they are just random numbers. I understand flow, but is it cfm or what?

You can use a truck MAF or an LS6 Corvette MAF. I believe the LS6 MAF's come unscreened. You can find a MAF table through a search on here or build your own based on your scans.

If you have a very powerful motor, no MAF will yield you the best power. The 85mm MAF is still a restriction even when the screen is removed. Depends how much you want that extra bit of HP!

The numbers represent CFM. We built a little flowbench using an electric fan and the stock air filter base. Since the fan was tested to put out consistent CFM to the base of the lids, we were able to measure the outlet speed on each air lid, the outlet area and then calculate CFM. Look at the #'s relative to each other instead of as an absolute indicate of possible maximum airflow.

Any pics that show how the lid fits once installed on the vehicle? How does this lid compare to the TSP 85mm lid?

Are these shipping yet? I was told you were waiting on boxes and I would receive a tracking # Monday. Still waiting on that.
