Ditched the K&N

Ditched the K&N
So I finally got tired of cleaning the damn k&n filter.
Took a little trip to autozone and got me a fram filter
and a pcv valve and a some tb cleaner. I get home
and replace the filter and pcv, clean the tb,maf, maf
screen, and lid. After replacing everything I start the
car and notice that my exhaust sounds a little deeper.
Maybe it was doing more harm than good. Not worried
or anything just glad I got rid of it.
(Free filter anyone?)

I always had the impression that the K&N's collected more dirt. Mine does a pretty good job. I mean If the filter didnt get dirty then I would be worried that its all getting past it.

Dirt gets stopped by the paper filters better. You might lose 1hp with paper, but the oil in the k&n makes the dirt stick and oily dirt can get past the k&n. You see the dirt on the k&n because it sticks to the oil where as the paper it just bounces off.

I am missing the logic here. If the washable K&N is showing dirt with the frequency mentioned - so is the paper element. This is like a debate over carpet vs hard wood. Both are getting dirty but one shows it and one hides it.
I have never understood the mystery behind washing and re-oiling a K&N. It really is not that tough to do.
To each his own, this debate is as old as the air getting filtered.

I have been using K&N for over 10 years in 2 different street/strip drag race cars with excellent results. You guys are missing the point of having a free flowing filter with good filtration.

Saying this not because I think it changes anybodys mind, been running K&N's since I had cars to put them in. Domestic, exotic, track and off-road. Have never had a problem. Swapped my OEM paper back in when I go out on the beach in the outer banks, not because I trust it more. I run my K&N down and back and goop the paper one up with sand while I'm there for a week or two.
Never been one to believe something (either way) just because its repeated on the internet.
Does anybody really think this company would still be in business if they were blowing up motors?
