Default My belt squeeks bad when I shift at high RPMs

I'm not real sure what is causing this problem. My belt is squeeking bad when ever I shift up at elevated rpms. Has this happened to anyone else? Not sure if I should just try a new belt, get some belt dressing, or get a adjustable tensioner pulley.

Any suggestions?

I don't have A/C so it's something on the main serpentine.

Thanks

The belt is probably loose. If it has a glazed look on it, then get a new belt.

I think that the belt is loose too but it uses the stock spring tensioner. I'm sure it's not my trans and it's definitely not a throwout bearing(it's auto).

I'm going to pick up some belt dressing tonight and give it a shot.

DO NOT PUT BELT DRESSING ON IT AT ALL! You will end up with a chirppy sound at idle and a hell of alot of squeal at high RPM's. You putting dressing on the pullies will make it messy and sticky as well. Don't cheap out on a new belt. I'm 99% sure that's all you need. Using dressing to get by is like using engine oil on your dash till you get a chance to buy some detail stuff! Dressing is o.k. on k-cars and Fords.

My 99 Z28 did that when I first got it. I put a new belt on it with no luck. I then put a new factory tensioner on and it totally went away. I would probably start by replacing the belt and then the tensioner or go with an adjustable tensioner. Hope this helps...

I suppose I'll try a new tensioner and another new belt. The belt only has about 300 miles on it.
