Muscle car V-8's -if not all V-8- are on a doomed path. Now What?

Muscle car V-8's -if not all V-8- are on a doomed path. Now What?
Hi I'm a new member. This is an especially good time join since C.A.F.E. is going to take a run at making the V-8 extinct. We need an opposing. strategy. After scanning Ford and GM hype it's my opinion that very' very soon we won't see a V-8 in any vehicle model that sells in large #'s. (exception = corvettes, but Camaro's {less than $33k} NO! [So buy your turnkey LS3 crate motor now cause soon there won't be many left.] Ford has flat-out said they were going to use turbocharged 4's and 6's to replace their v-8's. (Since this time around, both pickups and suv are included in the 35 mpg fleet wide average gas mileage benchmark- no car Co. can affort to sell a lot of units in any model hat has a v-8.)
So what the best plan of attack? LS'

dude i seriously doubt gm will quit making v-8's. a turbo six cylinder silverado? lol for someone who used it every day to pull stuff that motor would blow at like 50000 miles, and as far as camaro's and mustangs not having v-8's well my z has one and thats all that matters to me

Ridiculous. Turboed 4 cylinders don't get any better gas mileage than LS1 cars on average. Every lineup will take an initial hit in performance just like in the '70's. There weren't any fast cars in the late '70's and '80's. Corvettes had what, 200 horsepower?
If history has taught us anything, there will be an initial dropoff in performance, probably. Then, technology will catch up and they will find a way to make powerful motors that get better gas mileage. Auto manufacturers need to be forced to better their technology. This CAFE crap may seem bad now, but in 20 years, you're going to look back and praise that law because it will force auto manufacturers to make more powerful AND more efficient motors, two things that rarely come together.

v8's will alway be around in my opinion, from the factory they will just be more tamed and not at their full potential(like they are now) just look at the new monte carlo it switches automaticly from 4 cyl's to 8cyl's(depends on how you use it). GM will come up with bigger and better ways, it might just cost a little more to get it that way.

They will always make V8s. GM and Ford make way too much money to dump the V8. Even with gas shooting up there will still be people (us mostly) who don't care and want the v8 SOUND and POWER. I won't buy a supercharged v6. Ford and GM are not dumb! Well... sometimes.

Demise of the V8? Nah
Keep in mind it's a fleet average, so not every vehicle made has to hit 35MPG. All it takes is a few well placed econoboxes to offset the trucks and muscle.
There's other ways to get mileage without cutting power. Maybe we'll start seeing more lightweights, like Foxbodies and Third-gens. Gears, displacement on demand, tires, drag coefficients, and the like will also come into play. I think we
gonna be just fine.

not to get off topic.but i saw a tv show last week about this.here is the big question.
how come a 1988 civic got allmost 65mpg and a 08 civic gets only half that.!!!!!! hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm too much bullshit on the cars.i dont remember them getting that good of gas mileage BUT i was driving my 78 fury with a 440,thermal quad, police interceptor then too, that i bought off of the nys police for 500.00 bucks

Didnt read all the message, just wanted to drop my .02 in. With the computer techno out today, I dont see the gas mileage issue preventing v8s from being in our fav pony cars. The manufacturer will just tune the car back enough to make it pass the MPG laws yet with a computer and a lil know how every gear head will have his car tuned hwo he wants it after he gets it home.

I think ur on to something here - maybe a 2.73 gear with a 6-speed and a gear vendors unit??? lol - Final drive ratio - .25!! lol

History repeats it's self, 2009 is the new 1969. Look at the hp the cars are coming out. They will be around for a few year then die off the muscle cars did, because of gas prices. Then some new tech will come out and we will be right back where we started.

So why would automobile companies start remaking all the old muscle car favorites that America grew up on and then start putting 4 bangers in there with a turbo?!?!?! Who on Gods green earth would buy that?!?! If they stopped, they would lose a **** ton of money on both cars and trucks. A little 4 banger isnt going to get a 4 ton truck anywhere, let alone a heavy muscle car.
