Default is this true?? straight pipes can damage valves?

ok, i had to chop my crap exhaust setup off and decided i like it better straight piped! but im looking for somewhere to get my sticker...and this guys says running straight piped is going damage the valve train due to lack of back pressure??? so ya the pipe aren't that short, they dump at the axle.
thanks guys, let me know

lol. That's stupid. If you're running true duals, you're going to make power.

LOL! If you ran w/no headers or exhaust manifolds you can warp a valve......but even open headers is no risk. Enjoy the sound & power.

This is a great answer. One other thing to note is that if youre still running closed loop, you want at least 18" of pipe past the o2 sensor, otherwise reversion will skew your o2 readings.

One of the old myth's on this subject was due to cold air flowing back up the short pipe or headers after shutdown and with the cold air and hot metal causing the valve to wrap .. it is a very old myth.. .

But with much better metal in the Valve these days.. it is unlikely. But I guess it can happen.

if you was running open shorties yea i may worry about warping a valve but with long tubes i wouldent worry bout it

I ran my car open headers for about 4 months and never had any problems with the valves. That is just a old wifes tale.
