Smooth Bellows: The cheap way
hey guys Im thinking about doing the smooth bellow thing by buying a rubber connector for like a dollar since I work at a hardware store. My questions are as follows:
1. What is the diameter and length of the connector
2. I appreciate as much direction and help as possible, as
I need explicit directions when I work on cars are put
**** together, cause I #@*% up easy
3. What are the negatives associated with this mod and what
are the positives

3" x 3" fernco will be about 6" long at the most. its made of rubber...comes with 2 hose clamps....goes in with a little flexin'... advantage:allows air to stay smooth and helps smooth it out more. better than $50 bellows cause of no "rib" and cheaper
disadvantage: takes a little flexin' to get it in place...might have to shave it a little to fit if you got a "lid"

yip! it was easier for me to piece it together from the throttle body to the front...1 piece at a time...fernco onto TB...MAF onto Fernco...FLEX!!!....Lid onto MAF(dont forget all the clamps) tighten everthing up make sure all teh sensors are conected...start 'er up...you'll notice a little difference(not very much) at higher rpm's and speed on the highway.

I don't mean to **** anyone off but for the life of me I can't understand why anyone would want to use the "toilet bowl hose? I understand some of the bellows cost more then what we would like but isn't your car worth it, the last I knew the Baker hose was selling for something like $25. The correct hose size ( I.D ) needs to be 3 1/2" X 3 3/4". JMO

Call Baker at 1-800-959-7757, I think they still make them in black, red, they may have another color also. I see you have a Trans Am, as far as I know the Camaro hose will work. If you get one let me know and I'll e-mail you some pics of the install.

pvc pipe is measured on the inside....this thing is made to fit on the outside of the pvc...
The correct hose size ( I.D ) needs to be 3 1/2" X 3 3/4". JMO
an 1/8" flex is no big deal for rubber...it fits like a glove. 3" refers to the inside diameter of pvc...the wall of the pvc adds another 5/8" to the thickness. the Fernco is made to go on the outside of the pvc pipe. its rubber....and its smooth on the inside...wit no "single Rib" like other company's bellows...it only costs $5. you could have bought one by now...put it on your car...and this discussion wouldn't have to keep going on about the same thing. does the bellows work???? only massive power builders will really see any difference...

Re: Smooth Bellows: The cheap way
I would have to see dyno numbers to believe this smooth bellows would make a difference. The passage in the factory bellows is so much larger than the throttle body. Even with some turbulence the cfm through the bellows has to be greater than the throttle body.
Show me dyno numbers and prove me wrong. If it really increases hp I will gladly buy one. I don't want one that is going to crack my lid or pull it off with engine torque.

Re: Smooth Bellows: The cheap way
I had originally installed the Fernco, but took it off when I put my Direct-flo lid on. It felt like the lid would be under more stress than I would have liked, and didnt want to crack the lid due to a $4 piece of rubber and a .5 hp gain. Just my thought
