Default true duals vs y pipe

will true duals be a huge gain over a y pipe if i used the same headers on each?

There are a lot of variables involved in answering this. If you don't plan on doing heavy mods then I would stick with a custom y pipe set up. There have been a bunch of recent threads on this, I would try a search.

It all depends on the setup....mainly the merge. A good dual setup with a good merge will outflow a Y with a bad merge and vice versa.

I just had a custom y setup done on my D1SC car. The thing moves pleanty of air, so I wanted a good exhaust system. It leaves the Kooks 1 7/8's headers into 3" mandrel bent stainless, into a Flowmaster merge (2x3" in, 1x3.5" out), into a 3.5" Mufflex catback. Just picked up the car yesterday. Hopefully, I'll have pics this weekend. Sound is great, flow is great, and I don't have ungodly drone from dumps.

Bad post dude, cuz its flat out wrong.

A good 3" y pipe using a good merge with a 3.5 or 4" outlet will match anything a set of duals will do considering the rest of the exhaust is free flowing.

I build alot of exhaust for these cars and I ctually think the y pipe outperforms the duals, atleast the ones like I make.

^^^yep^^^

Search is down or I would have linked you to Patrick G's " how to make 500rwhp thread. He explains it and ther are lots of pics. It CAN actually in some instances be better than TD's because of the scavenging effect. My favorite LS1 Tech thread ever. Follow the whole thread and it gets in several heated debates. When search is up I'll try to link to it.

Ive only built one exhaust that I shipped. It was a set of 3" duals with x pipe. The site has cracked down on stuff like that so I just build exhaust for local cars now. What kind of headers do you have? I do have a y pipe that was bought from a sponsor here that I might sell. Its a Mufflex y pipe. Best merge you can buy. It uses the Flowmaster merge.

Looks like you have an LT1 car. This y pipe is for an LS1.

Is this the 500 rwhp recipe thread you were talking about? It was in my subscriptions.
