Default How many cats - 1 or 2???

So, I've had the Trans Am with the G1 cam for about 3 years now. It hasn't been my daily driver, but I'm reaching the point that I'm getting very annoyed and frankly sick of the exhaust smell.

Now, I'm wondering if I should just install one 3 inch high flow cat after the 3" collector or should I install 2 cat converters. The 2.5" inch ones before the collector?

Will I be ok with one single cat or should I get two?

Thanks......

Hmmm. I guess I'll go with two it's just that they're so damn expensive. Any particular reason I should go with two?

I'm guessing two would be better for flow purposes. assuming they both have the same resistance, the dual 2.5's should flow better than the single 3.

That's the reasoning I was going with. Sorry I wasn't more descriptive. Which ones are you thinking of purchasing?

Well, I'm not really sure. Ones that aren't too expensive. :-) Possibly the random tech cats. Those seem very common around here.

how do you figure that? my logic is one bigger cat would be less restrictive than 2 smaller cats.

anyways if you dont need to worry about smog then i don't think it really matters but if you do have to worry about smog then you need them as close to the engine as possible.

So, fellows....what's the outcome? One works fine or two?

Actually, does anybody actually run just a single one?

It really depends on the flow numbers of the actual cat you're using. But most of the time, from what others have posted up here, using 2 is better.

Damn...I really wanted to save money on this one and get one single one. But, regardless. I suppose I'll go with 2 cats then.

My cats flow over 600cfm each and still cost horsepower (magnaflow 3" metallic cores) You will never find a single that can flow 1200. Get two.

go with one and just put a cutout infront of it, cheap and wont cost hp when its open, im not sure how it would do emissions wise though

I have 2 cats on mine and made the numbers in my sig. Even the shop was impressed by the numbers with cats. They are Magnaflow, BTW. I don't think I would have hit that with 1.
