Do you all really think Flowmaster sounds that bad?!
OK, we all know about the "flow" issues in the FlowLESSmaster exhaust systems for our cars. Not going to argue that one.
But for the last couple years, I've read nothing but Flowmaster sound bashing(too quiet, too raspy, too weak, etc.) from F-body board to F-body board and I don't know why?
I realize exhaust tone is all about personal preference, but it sure sounds damn good to me(even with our "single" exhaust set-ups). It just has that nice muscular rumble that most other systems don't have IMO. I've especially heard some wicked sounding LT1's with this exhaust.
Comparing it to some ultra quiet systems I've heard, the built-in cutout of the wide-open Borla, or the unrefined straight-piped noise of the LM, they just don't do it for a muscle car IMO. To each their own I guess...
The GMMG is my favorite(which I have), but was just wondering why everyone now thinks Flows sound like crap on F-bods?
BTW, pulling off the cats will make just about any LT1/LS1 sound raspy/bad with most systems out there(so it is not just the Flowmaster).

I've always had something against them w/their ghetto *** 12" long tips, I personally don't like the sound either....and it provides minimal performance...

flowmasters sound great on older cars. like my 2nd gen, but they dont make the ones i want, 2.5 in and out center 2 chamber. but i never did like them on the LS1. but it still sounds good on LT1s that is my .02

I don't know how it sounds on an LS1, but I just got the SLP 2OTL catback for my LT1 and it sounds incredible! It's pretty close to the stock volume at idle and light throttle below 2000rpm, but at harder throttle and high rpms it really comes alive. It's got such a deep rumble to it, it makes the LT1 sound "big blockish"

A flowmaster stock replacement muffler was the first mod I did on my 98 Formula when it was a week old. It didn't sound that great, I was kind of disappointed. Kind of just a loud moaning sound, not the racecar type sound heard on Mustangs. I think dual exhaust with two flowmasters sounds much better than that 1-in 2-outlet Flowmaster does for our cars.

I generally like the sound of Flowmasters (although I admit that I've never listened closely to one on an LS1). Its their crappy flow #'s I can't get past.

I agree. I've always loved the sound of the Flowmaster, but I can't get over that loss of power thing.

I have dual 3.5 oval inlet Low Profile Flowmasters on my car and it sounds awesome. Only one delta gate in these bad boyz.

I do agree that they sound best on older muscle cars or 5.0 & 4.6 Mustangs, but I just don't think they sound as bad as people make them out to be on 4th gens...

I've always liked flowmaster for both sound and flow. My Nova has 3 inch duals with delta-flow 2 chambers with turn-downs My Formula has a 3 inch single in/out 2 chamber that gave me 5 more hp than the stock muffler.

I do not like the sound of at least certain flow setups on LS1's. It only sounds good at one point and all the other time it turns the sound into a fart can sound.

Flowmaster duals are hard to beat for sound in my opinion. Especially when they are hooked to a small block Chevrolet or Ford motor.

I can understand not liking the sound on an LS1 with an ORY, but when it comes to ANYTHING with true duals, Flowmaster sounds great. Also sounds great with cats or gutted cat shells on an LS1. And yes, there is a BIG difference between how it sounds with an ORY and with gutted cats on an LS1, I have proven this myself on my car. Gutted cats = no rasp and ORY = lots of rasp.
