started my ls6 intake swap, few q's and pics
Okay I started the intake swap, got it out in like an hour, unfortunately I did break the oil sending unit damn that things brittle. Anyway I lifted up the intake and holy ****! It was filthy under there! I seafoamed the car a few k ago and I figured it would be fairly clean. I went to order the oil pressure su and no place has it so I said screw it and painted the manifold silver and tb black. I also grinded off the ridges with a chisel which is easy and saves you $50 so I highly reccomend it. Anyways, 2 questions. Why is it so filthy? Is that normal? And also I noticed a hose in the back not sure what it is for but it was ripped off? See my pics im not sure what it is and if it is important.
What's this part?
Holy filth.. Why so dirty?
5 minutes with a chisel=saving $50
Fresh paint

dude mine was dirty underneath i did this swap last weekend but it was no where near that dirty i taped off my intake runners and used a shopvac and a rag with laquer thinner and made all that **** look good but the only bitch is gettnig the knock sensor wires to fit under it just right so that your intake sits flat i reccoment putting a small piece of tape on the wires to hold them where you want them because that was the only bitch i had with it
I also bought the coolant plugs and pipe from texas speed

The hose in the top pic goes to the pcv. I just stuffed a cheap vented breather in there. Looks good. shop vac all that **** off and clean really good. Not sure why you had to cut all the ribs out of the intake. It fit fine on my 98 the way it was. Make sure to get the vacuum line on the back or your hvac wont work.

so the hose that ripped off is for the pcv? All I have to do is put a breather on the right side where it ripped off? The reason I chisled the bottom Ted is so that I wouldn't have to buy the new coolant pipes, because the intake now fits with the stock 98 ones

Yeah man that's the PCV hose assembly. That big bulge in the line that connects to the front side of the manifold is the PCV itself. The hose just vents both sides of the valve covers to the manifold. Sent you a PM I have that hose.

Yeah looks very much like the PCV line, i just checked the receipt and it was $96.16 out the door after taxes. I believe the front of the engine has an opening to that area, so thats possibly why that area under the intake is so filthy. Intake looks good though, nide job.

is the nipple still there on the passenger valve cover? if it is just take 3/8 hose from it to the rubber y coming off the driver side valvcover and connect with a 3/8 barb coupling. if your rubber y is ruined just repace it with hose and a 3/8 t or y barb fitting. no need to buy from a dealer.
mine wasnt that bad but my 2002 17000 mile ls1 was pretty dirty. amazing where leaves and stones can wind up.

Yea my PCV line broke just like yours, You can put regular hose on there but I bought the whole assembly from the dealer, buy that one off camaroguy26, im sure he'll hook you up. I like to fix things like factory instead of making up some mickey mouse pcv line. Just my .02
