Default What if you find an exhaust leak, but don't think you can plug it?

Ok, I think my exhaust leak is in the flange that connects the header to the head. I have checked the bolts and they appear to be tight and the gasket is good, but what do I do if there is still a leak? Is there anything that can be put over the leak, such as some type of silicone or anything to plug up the leak? Thanks!

Just take it to an exhaust shop and have the guy weld shut the area that you think it is leaking from.

Yeah, take the header out, pressure test it or shine a light to where you think the leak is at. Then have it welded.

Is that safe/smart to weld the header to the engine block?

What kind of gaskets are you running? Have you removed the gasket and looked at to see if their is any damage or burning to it?

no no, not weld the header to the block but weld the primary tube to the flange where it is leaking. You did say it's leaking where the pipe slides in to the main flange or between the flange and the head on the engine?

AHH now i get what you are saying Mvette, I gotcha, if it is leaking there just weld it to the flange, but if it is leaking from the flange to the block, check the gasket. I am pretty sure it is the header to the flange, but I will have to double check. Thanks!
