Flycuting stock pistons dangerous?
Hey all wanted to get a general opinion here
H/C combo in sig. Its been nice but Im thinking I want a bigger cam...
Which would require flycutting
Is flycutting a stock piston dangerous? I understand that the stock pistons arent as strong as forged, but is it truely a death sentence for an LS1?

Depends on how deep you need to go. I was told the stock piston is about 220 thous. thick. Mine are flycut about 80 thous at the deepest portion and I have had no issues. My flycutting was required becuase of the larger intake valve I used.

Here's what a .130 depth cut on a 2.02 intake valve looks like, exhaust valve is .075 stock sized valve. It helps to smooth them out and polish them up after you cut, I think the final prep is crucial to how the hold up in the end. If they last till the spring I plan on throwing a 150 shot at them

Im currently running the H/C combo in my sig. As it is I know Im pretty well maxed out as far as PTV clearance goes without even measuring it. Valves are 2.02 and 1.57 I believe.
Id like to run a larger cam like a torquer v2 or v3 or even something like an MS3, or preferably a custom spec cam.
Whichever way I go with a bigger cam I need to flycut.
Currently running ~11.4 static cr and around 8.4 dynamic. Cant remember what it was exactly.

I am curious if someone can post up some pictures of the apparatus being used for the flycutting? I read and hear about it, but never have seen it done on a " do it yourself" scale and im a " do it yourselfer" lol
