Default How much power do you think this bottom end will hold?

I'm looking at building a nitrous motor pretty soon. This is what I'm leaning toward right now....

-408cid LQ9 6.0L Iron block
-Diamond Racing custom piston set (haven't decided yet)
-Total Seal steel top ring set
-Oliver Billet 6.125" connecting rods
-Callies Dragonslayer crankshaft
-ARP main stud kit

How much power do you think this bottom end will hold? Also, are the Oliver rods worth the $1k more than the Eagle or Scat H-beam rods?

The top-end will consist of Trick Flow 235 heads, Super Victor intake w/ DP nitrous, and an Accufab 4150 t/b.

Putting those parts in that block is limiting. Go with an LSX block if you want to go dragonslayer/oliver, or go with the LQ9 and just use scat/eagle, or lower line of Callies.

I just sounds like you have a very nice setup going together, and you really need the LSX block so that it can handle the limits that the rest of your parts can be taken to.

So you're saying the guts can take a whole lot more than the block with that set-up? And that I would be a little better off with something like Lunati H-beam rods and a Callies Compstar crank?

Anyone know the limits of an LQ9 408 block?

I would just recommend the Callies Compstar crank and rods. The block can easily handle 800rwhp, and people have run more but you are taking it's bore to it's limit and it could start to crack under higher HP. So, it's just not feasible to put in the best components when the block would limit you to a power level that lesser internals are still suitable for.

The diamond pistons will do very well for you & I've made 1140+rwhp with Diamond pistons, eagle crank & eagle 2000 rods. The oliver rods are also super nice, but they might be over kill... How much nitrous are we talking?

You are going to have a problem lifting the heads before you run into bottom end problems.

I just did a 418 with Eagle crank, eagle rods, and eagle pistons. Once you get over about 300-350 you have problems with the 4 bolt head design.

If you are truly wanting to spray 500, go with the LSx block so that you can take advantage of the 6 bolt heads.

I think its a waste to put anything like oliver rods or a dragonslayer crank in an LQ9. The block is plenty strong, just going to run into problems like what i stated above.

ya that thing will push some water with even a dual stage 500. Go LSX, 6 bolt heads.

Okay...so I've been looking around. I was thinking that if I went LSX, I would probably want to go bigger than 408cid. My question is, why isn't the Dragonslayer crank offered with any other LS based shortblock with more than 408 cubes?

The Compstar crank is the only one offered for the bigger cubes. How much will that crank hold? Would it be worth it to do an LSX set-up with only 408cid?

LS1 cranks dont really have many issues (stock or aftermarket). I think a compstar crank would get the job done, and you would never regret it.

If you were doing an LSX setup, 427's are about the smallest i have seen.

You should talk to Noysee over on the nitrous section. He made the switch from an LQ9 408 to an LSX 427. He could tell you all the first hand experience he has had with both.
