Default lq4 questions

im looking at swapping in an lq4 into my 98 trans am...
the car is an a4,Ive read that certain years will not bolt up to my 4l60e and converter...somthing about the crank snout is longer....

my research here using the search shows that 99-00 are the years that will not work ...is this info accurate??

my next question is concerning the heads...did any 00 engines recieve the 317 aluminum heads??or were all the 99-00 heads iron...My reason in asking this is that i found a great deal on a take out engine...the guy at the salvage yard said he thought it was an 00 engine, however he said it had aluminum heads....i bought a set of 317s awhile back and they came off an 01...

ive not been to look at the engine yet im trying to save a 2hr drive....

also how would this compare to the ls1 will the cubes make up for the compression loss...

my engine is down and i really wanna go 6 liter while its apart...

99-00 is what it seemed like when i did the research. if he is not sure of the heads then ask for the head casting number when you call. i went with the lq4 also and love the power. im doing the l92 heads next month and cant wait to see how the z runs with those. this engine will be ready to throw a stroker crank in it some time down the road, thats why i went 6.0.

Default 6.0 swap

I just swapped my 2000 Ls1/4l60e for a 2004 6.0.

All sensors swap over.

I had to use the the LS1 flex plate. Unbolted the stock 6.0 liter flexplate and spacer/adapter and the Ls1 flex palte bolted right up.

Hey 5 02LS1, i'm doing the same swapp. Only i'm going with a turbo setup. All this was great info. My car's also a 98. I was concerned whether all the sensors would plug up also. JIMB are you sure all the sensors plug up and are the same? Thanks

yes it's a direct fit. You must use F-body oilpres switch, there is two dif one's there. Some of the early Lq/truck engines have one screwhole less than others blocks to bolt on the 4L60. This is not a problem. you can skip it or make a new hole there.
