Default 5.3 heads with stock cam and spray

Would a set of ported 5.3 heads be a nice upgrade on a bolt on spray car still running the stock cam? The compression bump should be nice right?

u need a cam, and what eles do u have done to the car.

i would buy a cam instead of heads u will make more power with stock heads and a cam rather than stock cam and after market heads.

be smart

dyno tune wet kit 3400 fuddle 4.10 gears Lt lid custom ram air kit lid 6.0 maf ported throttle body. Still ls1 intake. The heads are only going to run me about 650 total. And the compression should make more of a difference on nitrous right?

what ever man. everything needs to match just a lil more compresion isnt gonna make that much of a difference. lets see more compresion and then better flowing heads. OK ? and no cam to open up the valves more. if u want more compression save your 650 and mill you stockers

andi can see u are new but u are gonna get smart *** remarks when asking ?'s like that

compression is around 10-15hp per point or something like that. They're ported so it will help. It might be better to just get a cam at the same time since you have to set up aftermarket springs on the heads when you get a cam anyways. You can find used stuff to meet your budget

I dont really want a cam. Trying to be a touch different. Plus a lot of people think your slow if they dont hear a cam in a ls1. Hoping to run off on some people with 500+ hp on the bottle

Check out something like the thunder racing cheatr cam:

214/230 .601/.575 117 LSA

You dont go too high on duration and get a high lsa you won't hear the cam at all but you'll be picking up a lot of power with those ported heads

Not really interested in going cam. Anyone else run ported heads spray and stock cam?

You're going to meet resistance on the web forums because this is off the beaten path. Not many people go this route on these engines. That doesn't mean it's unacceptable, but people will resist because they are unsure about what you're doing.

I've seen a handful of people go this route for the sleeper setup. The bump in compression is nice and the CNC'd heads will make better power than stock, even with the stock camshaft (not as good as with an aftermarket cam, but still good power). Between the heads and the spray, you'll have a nice chunk of power of stock waiting to surprise people. I think it'll be fun!

Are you going to install the basic bolt-ons like long-tube headers and free flow exhaust, UD pulley, etc?

i done this years ago on a 5liter ford...it sounds crazy but mine lost a little bottom end powere....but the smaller combustion chamber and short runners of your 5.3 heads i think you will be fine...I lost bottom end but the upper rpm gain was well worth it...i could see it making 360=370rwhp n/a....then it should be fun on the hose...good luck and keep us posted...
