Check out weber racing they use them in a lot of short block. I had a set with arp 2000 bolts I was going to use but ended up selling them they looked like a really good piece.

Tom Molnar is the man, he is the head guy from K1 Tech. He used to design the rods for Oliver. I would call him directly and see what he can do for you.

I've used them in two engines and both engines spun rod bearings. One was likely an oiling problem the other I have no idea. Both had perfect housing bores and plenty of bearing clearance. I'm not blaming the rod, but I know it wasn't in the assembly of the Shortblock. One got Compstar rods in the rebuild and is still going strong.

IMHO, they look a little thin in the beam section. I'd check and see if they can handle the power levels you are shooting for.

Compstars are heavy vs. K1. Not to mention K1 holds much tighter tolerances on there rods as far as weight. I have seen Compstar sets as much as 5 grams off and they said that was acceptable!! K1's are always within 2 grams.

What's the K1 vs compstar differes in weight?
What's. Makes the compstar heavier? Same type of metal ?

I'll see if I can find it. I won't be back to work until Monday, but I'll try to get a pic then.

We will be stocking a few sets of K1 rods here very shortly. While we don't plan on running a lot of them in our applications, we will however have them for customers that request them. When they arrive I'll compare them to the other brands we stock!!

Funny - was just talking to a local engine builder and he mentioned them with good things to say. Although their shop is primarily Mopar - he still knew quite a bit about them and recommended them to me.

That would be Great.

I keep hearing there lighter but from a spec sheet they seem to be little bit heavier ?

Unless you get into some sort of exotic steels, they all weigh the same (.283 pounds per cubic inch). The difference in weight between the K1 rod and the Compstar is in the design. With 27 years experiance designing connecting rods, I have learned a few things about making a rod strong yet light. Many of the others add mass to gain strength.

We have 2 different (soon to be 3) different LS1 rods. Our current light weight rod is about 610 grams and the heavier version is reserved for big turbo or heavy nitrous applications.

I was told by K1 they no longer offer the heavier version and only sell the light weight ones. This was about 5 months ago. I initially ordered the heavier, but was sent the lightweights. Sent them back and requested heavy, I was in contact with the vendor and K1 and was told they discontinued them by both.

What is the HP rating/limit on the lightweight ones?

A bit of the issue is some customers of K1 are running insane power and boost through the light weight ones and not breaking them. Although a rod manufacturer wouldn't want to state it, the first design (heavier) isn't needed at the power most of us produce. I believe both are still available though.

i had them on my 94mm turbo motor. never dynoed it, but i would say roughly 1200fwhp. would be a good educated guess.
