Default Goal: 400hp dream: 450 to the wheels

Hey what up fellas I have a 01 z28 vert its also an m6 and has 115k miles. This is pretty much a street car and only been to the track once out of the 4yrs that i've had it. I do have simple little bolt ons like volant cold air intake, SLP loudmouthII, hypertech programmer (which i'll be taking off soon and selling it), and a hurst short shifter. well for the past couple of months its only been garage kept and i take it out only on the weekends. My plan with my car is to get 400hp. What i got in mind is a good head and cam package, headers, put a 75 shot (just to say that i have it), porting out my stock TB, and doing all the supporting mods, and at the end get it tuned. well with all that said is that enought to get me to my goal? money is somewhat of an issue and would like to keep a budget but also i want dependability with these mods.

so my question is, can you advice of what kind of mods i should be looking at to get the dependability that i want along with reaching my goal of 400hp but 450hp would be my dream?

please state any questions/concerns about anything.

your help is very much appreciated

I've somewhat made up a list of mods that i may be getting and that other memeber have put on their cars and have received good results.

Either of those setups will get you over 400rwhp. I did 393, then after I got a retune I picked up 3 tenths & 4mph @ the track, so I'm assuming I'm a little closer to 400 now and I'm cam only. From what I've seen, those setups should typically get you in the 420-430 range. 450 will more than likely require a bigger cam than a 224. I'm just speaking generally here, I know there are a few guys that are the exception.

That should make around 420whp. Then factor in the 75 shot and you'll be hovering around 500whp.

Might be able to get away with a good 5.3 head instead of the AFRs to save a little $$$.

call tsp or check their site and that will give you a good idea about a good set of 5.3 heads.

Don't think you have to go donkey dick to get 450wrhp.

Chris1313 has over 420hp with just a 230/230 cam, add AFR205 heads and you would be around 450rwhp.

With that 224/228 + the AFR heads and a good tune I think you can come within the realm of 450rwhp.

Donkey Dick cams + **** budget heads have a hard time even hitting 430rwhp; do it the right way.

to the OP:

check the classifieds, and the regional clasified to find a nice set of 243s. Im not sure about this so it might take a little more research :flame suit on" a set of 243s might outflow a set of budget 5.3s. i dont know for sure, but the bigger valves in the LS6 heads it would make sense, but the higher CR of the 5.3s might make up for it. That is just another alternative im throwing to you

the bottom line is that AFR heads are made of better quality and will add just a few more hp than the PRC heads, huh?
