LS1 HOT CAM..need info
I know its a baby cam compared to most but I found one at a hella deal and was just curious....how much of a gain can I see with this cam untuned?
Car is a 2000 trans am 6 speed, lid, longtubes, no cats, cat-back, ported tb..just small stuff.....any estimates?

About 25rwhp with full bolt ons. Its a good starter cam but it will leave you wanting more, ask me how I know... The good thing is you can get away with cheap ls6 springs ($50) and you can use the stock push rods.

Untuned on a dyno got about 352rwhp 348tq with nothing else, but headers and a little porting on the heads. With tuning the horsepower went to about 365rwhp and 390tq, but depending on what you want it does leave you wanting more.

I had a hotcam for a long time. The only reason I took it out was because I could never get it tuned correctly. It always had off-idle issues. I do have an automatic though. As far as performance, I loved it. It had great midrange and a really nasty idle. I ran 11.55 with it and it felt very strong. I still miss that idle. My new cam makes more power but it doesn't sound near as good.

Friend of mine made 360 rwhp with this cam years ago in his 99 Z28 w/ Mac Midlengths, Offroad Y Pipe, Granatelli Maf, Whisper Lid, free mods, cutout, stock ls1 intake, dont even think he had a ud pulley. There was no LS1 tuning really back then anyway, not around here. It now makes like 396ish rwhp with a locally mildly ported set of heads (not done by a good porter at all), LS6 intake, Yella Terra Rockers and some tuning with LS1 edit.

im going with a hot cam and stock ls6 243 heads, hoping to put down around 380rwhp and im gunning for an 11.5, its def a lot cheaper than anything else, i bought my cam for 100 bucks, dont need the valve springs because i have the ls6 heads, can reuse the stock pushrods, the only thing i might do is put a timing chain on it and an oil pump, I think if you do the work yourself it is well worth it but if your paying to have it done iw ould spend the extra money and get a better cam

2001 LS6 = 204/211 .535/.535 116 LSA
2002+ LS6 = 204/218 .551/.547 117.5 LSA
Hot Cam = 219/228 .525/.525 112 LSA
It's not a big cam, nor is it the newest lobe "technology" but many people make pretty good power with it. It's not for everyone, but it's hard to beat for the money due to the small spring requirements and tame lobes that don't require hardened pushrods. If a baby cam is what you are after it's a very good choice. Not everyone wants much cam or all the power they can get out of a cam swap. It's important to take into account any particular persons goals for their car before making a recommendation to go to a bigger cam.

Nosir, it's not just an LS6 cam. It's actually a long way from being an LS6 cam.
