When I did it I took out the front ones, but just loosened the rest of them. I had the front end of my car on one-foot high ramps, and a small amount of oil did run out the back of the pan. But your ramps probably won't be that high; these are some I built myself.

When you try to put that damn bolt back in the oil pick up, try this. Take a piece of thread, tie it around the bolt. At the other end, tie a heavy nut. When you drop the bolt (into the oil pan, and you will), the weight of the nut will ****** it right back out. Otherwise, you will have to fish it out with a magnet. Make sure you cut the thread off the bolt before tightening it. Works great...

If a lifter fell you'd know it because the new cam wouldn't go in. You'd also be able to see the lifter down in the space that the cam is supposed to occupy. If your installing the double chain be SURE you get the spacer on the output port side of the oil pump oriented correctly. It will severely restrict oil flow if you install it upside down which can be done if your not careful. If you have trouble getting the oil pump pickup tube started into the oil pump pickup port because of the new pump spacers you can pull the pump cover off and remove the DRIVEN and DRIVE gears. This enables you to wiggle the pump body just enough to get the pickup tube started up into the oil pump pickup port. I'd at least get the pickup tube bolt started in at this point and THEN replace the DRIVE and DRIVEN gears as well as the pump cover. It is at this point that the spacers should be installed paying close attention to the spacer on the output side.

replace the oil pick up tube bolt BEFORE you secure the pump bolts into the block....replace the o-ring with a new one....
...on the back two pan bolts...they should not be torked down too much ,,,,like 15lbs or so, i think.,..
