Have a 04 lq4 that will go in my s10. Iam planing on a single plane w/carb. Are the 243 worth me getting? this will be a street / strip truck. rest of combo is th350 w/4000 conv. 9inch w/4:11 gears truck should be around 2800 lbs. also dont want to run into and ptv issues. have seen plenty of this combo's run good. would like to run in the 10's if I can. any combo's out there with stock 317's or 243 or ?

I would use the #243s myself and put more SCR in the motor. With your camshaft profile(whatever that might be?), I would rather you have more compression in it.

Compression is your friend.

You will have to mill the snot out of those 317's to get where you need to be. It just depends on what your goals are. You could mill the 243's a little to bump the compression even more. Go here: http://www.csgnetwork.com/compcalc.html play around with some numbers and see where you end up. FWIW, you will lose ~1 cc of chamber for every .006" milled on stock heads.

I would shoot for a minimum of 11:1 for any decent cam.
