Default General prices on a 400+ CID LS1 based motor?

With a mild cam, LS6 intake and a set of lightly ported LS6 heads.

Nothing wild, just something to install in say a 64-72 GM A-Body just to get it up and going good.

Would need more lower end torque that high RPM HP.

Just a general idea would be great. Oh, it could be either Cast Iron or Aluminum Block.

Thank.

Stroker kits cost that much? I know heads are probably around $2K, cam and springs, etc, another $1K, intake is $450. So I have $3500, a bare block is around $600(iron). So $4100 so far. You are telling me that a stroker kit and assembly is $7K ?????

figure bare block for 600 iron is correct. then the lunati stroker kit is like 3500 or thereabouts. then figure gaskets and bearings(i don't know if they come with the lunati kit) and you might as well do ARP stuff so that ups the cost. then even though its a new block, you may need some machine work done. then oil pump is needed, oil pan, etc.. the little things kill ya and yes, stroker kits cost that much

tips: i built one w/ the exception of a $1650 crank for less than 3k. so 45-4800 and you could do this VERY nicely.. ;D

10-15K assembled, not installed. That's for the best parts and assuming a resleeved aluminum block.

check with Trevor at Texas Speed. They were doing iron blocks with offset ground cranks and bigger bore and getting 400" at a pretty reasonable price. Go with a budget head (e.g. Patriot or TEA) instead of LS6 heads and a mild cam grind and you'll get a bolt-in torque monster within your budget.

If you have one of the big shops do it I would say 15k. I built an aluminum 422 over the winter and had a local builder assemble it and I'm just under that amount. The nice thing is that I got the exact parts I wanted. LS6 heads are very expensive as is the stroker crank and resleeved aluminum block. Going with an iron block will save about 2 grand. With the numbers some of these offset cranks are giving you may want to go that route.

I agree with theblur98ss...look at doing it yourself. What I mean is not necessarily assemble it yourself, but piece it together then have it assembled. Its also nice to do it that way because you can buy parts when you have the money - you don't have to drop 15 grand at one time - or half and half.

If you are on a budget and want big cubes forget the aluminum block. Also, if you plan on the juice, some vendors are weary as to whether or not the offset stroker will hold up. TSP runs the bottle on their car, but suggest that I not do the same if I went with the offset crank. Just food for thought. Also, mae sure to check out TEA for heads. They can set you up with a "budget" head or a full blown LS6 solid roller head.

Well, I am not looking for something exotic.

My idea is find a wrecking yard Escalade/Suburban motor. THen find a stroker kit, a used LS6 intake and then a mild cam.

I figure I can do that for under $7K with assembly and have a mid 12 second ride in a 64-72 GM A-Body.

I like the KISS method.

you could do that with a factory longblock and a cam.

Keep It Simpler Stupid.
