Default Got a ? about cranks

So I am a member on another local site and there is a kid on there with a cammed trans am and about a month ago he blew it up some how. So he keeps posting about this new motor that he is doing but wont say what exactly it is. He did post though that when he was trying to bolt the tranny up that it wouldnt fit. He said that for 2 years gm made their cranks 2 inches longer than before. I didnt know if that had anything to do with the size of the motor? If any of you guys know please help me out because I wanna get the low down on his car before we race because he likes to lie about his setup lol. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think up until 2000 or something the cranks were a couple inches longer, and they fit with older transmissions (TH4OO, TH3500 without using a spacer. The newer ones you have to space the flexplate out. I don't know if it depends on the size of the motor?

Ok thanks a lot. He also said that now he has to take the motor out and swap the crank for some reason i guess. Maybe he doesnt know that he could just get a dif flexplate lol

The truck 6 liter blocks had longer cranks in 00-02, or there abouts. So chances are, he's going to a 6.0 liter. Just do a search on here for longer crank. Should be some more info.
