with stock cam it will be close headers and intake will free up alot. Hand port the intake and heads. just clean them up don't go overboard. With the intake leave the "turtle shell" alone (on the floor of the intake) It helps blend the fuel and air. throw a little cam in the mix and you have it.

...with better heads and cam to get a validated @ 385hp out of it (2001 ZO6).
Then did a **** load more work and another cam to get it to 405hp.
Dynos are notorious for the "fudge-factor button" getting pressed a bit too much IMO.
Plus they don't do J1349 SAE standard, which GM (thumb's up) conform to and are one of the few manufacturers who do.
Normally engines in tuning articles are run without water-pump, a-c compressor, alternator, PAS pump etc. They usually also have more often than not, a completely open bell-mouth intake and as mentioned, usually open headers without any system & mufflers.
Not very realistic. Bog stock crate LS1's will make about 420-440hp easily this way.
Are we talking real horsepower here or just whimsical horsepower with the word "if" thrown in?

You are probably meaning gross hp which is what used to be practised up until the early 1970's. When asthmatic carb-fed V8's were rated at a suspiciously high power setting which today would see them struggling to make 300hp.
They changed to net hp because of all the sales b/s and confusion. Thankfully.
By initially using ISA (+15c 1013mb and zero RH or 59f 29.92in Hg) which became J607 standard.

Almost all car manufacturers adopted J607 (or pretty close to it) and most of them still remain on J607. As do most tuning companies & Dyno businesses.
All engines validated by GM to J1349 are run with the complete intake system as fitted in the vehicle (maf-meter air-box & filter fitted) ......all accessories and full, stock exhaust system. To replicate real installation losses as closely as possible.
This is all then corrected to 25c 990mb and zero RH.
The 505hp that the LS7 is validated for would be around 525hp if J607 were used.
My original statement still stands. A stock LS1 will need to be in perfect condition with some really decent bolt-ons and a good PCM tune to make 380 NET SAE horsepower.

yes, it was in hot rod magizine jan 06 (ls1 cookbook). sorry for the lack of info. this was through stock LS1 lid-maf-tb-intake and out ls1 mani's, stock y pipe. all entirely stock. 365hp.
