Default Ticking! Help! Vid inside

Ok my old block got locked up and had to get a new one. Got another short block went ahead put it together put a cam in it with springs and put it back in to the car started it up and notice it has a ticking noise coming from the passenger side. We took off the heads thinking it was a lifter changed out the lifters (but the old lifters looked fine) put it back together and it still ticks from the same side. What eles could it be bad Oil pump o-ring?? Any help would be nice. Thanks!

if i had to bet it sounds like something to do with an oil pump... but you ruled that out. You have oil pressure. Then maybe a broke pushrod?

Maybe just a real bad exhaust leak? what's your exhaust setup look like? I have a ticking that is pissing me the **** off day in day out, I've developed an attitude of not caring, because I checked the rockers and PRs, they are fine. Changed my LT gaskets, but the back bolt is "suspect", and I have block off plates on my emissions tubes. I hear they break off with block off plates sometimes and maybe one of them is developing a stress fracture. If you figure it out post up. My car still runs like a bat out of hell so who knows. /hijack

That's the last thing I am considering on my car (and I've reached that point haha). As I understand lifter noises should go AWAY with added oil pressure that comes with higher RPMs (on a working system). My ticking stays constant, not real loud, and it's been around for quite a while. I know the LSx is noisy, but I have a real hard time believing this noise is simply "LStick" Good luck.

EDIT: I noticed you said pressure is fine, "always at 40"... do you mean always at idle, or always... always? It should rise when you're gassing it/flooring the hell out of it. Mine is ~75psi when I'm really raggin on the thing, 40psi after hot idle/hot day/sitting in traffic. If you in fact did mean that, then disregard wtf I just said

Damn that sounds almost exactly the same as my noise... except a good deal louder than mine. If you figure it out share in this thread, I'm interested to see myself what it is.

did you put loctite on the cam sprocket bolts? if not one could have backed out and is tapping on your timing cover.

I put loctite on every bolt that the LS1howto guide said to which included that one. I will set aside a weekend to pull it all apart and check that anyhow, that's a good point to check thanks.

That sounds terrible. I dont know if its just the camera picking it up and amplifying it or what. Did you torque the rocker arms to 22lbft and spin the crank and recheck them? That sounds like either terrible valvetrain noise or a bottom end knock.

You said its a new shortblock, did you reuse your bottom end? That just sounds exactly like my 305 tpi that is no longer with us......

My car sounded like that about 2 months ago(cam lobe gone and lifter). It sounds like that again now 800 miles or so later after installing new ls7 lifters and a new cam.

Good luck man!
