to much cam info, totally confused now!!!!
im so confused!!!! I originally purchased a ms4 cam with dual springs and hardened pushrods for a cam only swap...i have a 2002 ls1 with 241 heads, full bolt ons, 4:10 rear gears and a 6 speed tranny. i was just going to use the stock heads and go on about my business....then everyone starts telling me the ms4 is wrong for this car, or how right it is but i need to change out all this other stuff...lol....
today i read another thread about how the ms4 is a good pro stock sounding cam and rips up top but smaller more mid range cams will perform better and out run a ms4 car?
this is what im looking for....400+ horse power to the rear wheels!!! this is a must!!!!
i will be doing little to NO drag racing on a strip, mostly playing on the street here and there from rolls!!!! i want people to know it has a cam in it by hearing it!!!!
but i think i would rather have a mid range cam, power wise, and not so much a top end cam...not a low end but mid range...
can you guys give me some numbers of what to be looking for?
oh and another scenerio is i have a set of ported ls6 heads that may go on the car as well....so if i use them, should i go with the ms4 then or still look for a smaller mid range cam? thanks in advance

you should be in the 415-425 range those gears will eat up a little horsepower. it sounds like a good setup especially from a roll. from a dig with good tires you just need a good launch.

It is all taste a and preference IMO. I have seen people on here swear by them with a similiar setup to yours and seen people call them total dogs down low..... A properly speced low 230's cam will have good bottom and still rip up top.... It is the way I would/did go. Me being an A4 car makes a difference too. tv2,f13 or f14, something along those lines on a 112 or 111LSA.

Anytime you get into mods you can spend half your time second-guessing yourself.
While personally I might have gone with a 226-230 cam with those gears and 241 heads, sometimes it is just best to learn by by not being afraid to experiment.
You might love the MS4. Many of us (including myself) have went through 3 or more differing cam & head combinations before 'happiness' occurred. I spent a lot of time asking others for their opinion, and quite frankly I learned more by just going with my initial decision.
If you make a mistake, just change it. Unless this is the last engine mod you will ever do, any other attitude will always lead you to the 'too much information' syndrome.
From your description while it sounds like you want a 228-232 type cam, only you can be the best judge. You will never get it perfect the first time.
Just my advice, hope it works out for you.

Do the MS4. You hear these stories about little cam cars pulling donkey dick cam cars only because oftentimes the donkey cammed cars are running stock gears/no stall/etc. I went with an F14 (232/234) and wish I would have just went big from the get go. It sounds like you should go with nothing less than a mid 230s cam but that's just my opinion. You've got the gears for it, do it, it'll be a monster.

You should talk to the person who will tune your car.
Personally, I don't think the MS4 is a good street cam. A friend of mine has it and loves it. Just different taste and what you call streetable or driveable.

MS4 and 410 gears? roll racing? for roll racing you would benifit more from a top end cam. The MS4 is a top end cam. what do you need mid range for with 6 gears and 410's? Youll never be bellow 4000 RPMs in a roll race.
