Default 4.030 bore with 4.250 stroke, anyone doing it? Would it work well?

Picking up my 6.0L next weekend, already picking out rotating assemblies for it. Im putting in in my 78 Datsun for now and when it goes ill be pulling it, building it as a stroker of some sort and putting it into my firebird with a set of L92s. The datsun will get my aluminum 5.7 then.

Is anyone running this combination? I was just thinking of going with 4.030x4.00 as seems common but why not go the extra and stroke it to a 434? The car is <3000lb with me in it, most street raced and street driven (but as a legal race car 'street rod') so i am looking for some durability to the engine but not like 80,000 miles of durability.

The block would have to be notched right to clear the 4.250 crank and possibly custom rods and pistons? Would this combination just not like to rev? I dont think it would be too highly stroked do you?

6.0L iron block correct? Will require custom pistons - Ring stack will have to be moved - your skirt will be very short and might have to run a different wrist pin size for everything to be correct in the cylinder.

Do a search about this stuff. The issue here is piston design. The more you stroke it, the more the piston is pulled out of the bottom of the bore. Not worth it IMO.

Yeah iron block. So you're saying i should just stick with a 408? Haha. I was going through our speed shops catalog a while back when i was getting my duramax heads milled and saw he was able to get a 4.250 crank for the ls1, was just thinking a 434 might be kind of cool.

We've done several but drag race only and usually with a vacuum pump and only with custom pistons designed for the short cylinders.

Why would it need a vacuum pump? I run manual brakes anyway on the 68 so i wasnt worried about it when i swap it in there.

Ill just stick with the 402-408 i think guys haha.

Arrow

Even when the pistons are right there is a little more rock down at BDC. It can work just fine but it's a lil more money and adds a lil insurance.

A 4.000 is much easier to do for sure with cheaper shelf parts.

You could do a 4.100 or 4.125 crank though.

Who are you asking? OP hasn't been here for over 7 years and this thread is 11 years old.
