Default Reuse crank gear w/ new chain?

This might be a dumb question but is there any problem w/ reusing the stock 30K mile crank gear with my new LS2 chain and adjustable timing gear? I put the new cam in tonight dot to dot prior to degreeing and the chain seems a little loose but then again I don't remember how loose my stock chain was before I pulled the cam out a couple days ago either.

I would always use new gears with the chain unless the miles are super low. This can contribute to the amount of slop. Some is normal, too much is not good!

Most on here like me reuse the gear. Yes these chains fit slightly looser than some aftermarket ones. But yeah adjustable and LS2 chain are mutually exclusive.....

If it was me, I'd use the new one.

It came with it in the package for a reason.

Yank had some sets for sale a month or two ago (they might still). Anyways, it's basically a stock crank gear with an LS2 chain and an adjustable cam gear - the type with the dowel hole on the gear bored out a little so you slip in the different sized "rings" into the hole based on if it needs to be advanced/retarded or not.

Change the crank sprocket too if you have it. As they wear the drive sprocket will tend to have more difficulty releasing the chain as it travels to the upper gear (it will tend to want to wrap).
