Drag racing with a 100k mile LS1
Will I be safe drag racing my 100k 1998 LS1? I'm just putting in a MS3 cam, upgrading the valve train, and leaving the rest stock. I am going to put new piston rings, new rod bearings, and new crank bearings in the motor. I'm also getting the crank polished. Do you guys recommend doing anything else while the motor is apart. I'm kinda on a budget.
Thanks
Thanks

Man your opening a door here that may have ALOT on the other side of it. Here are just a few things off the top of my head to do this right. As you stated crank will need to be polished, cylinders deglazed, block fully cleaned, main and rod clearances checked, rods all checked (with new upgraded rod bolts if preferred),new oil pump, new timing chain, i would change the cam bearings but a close inspection is the bare minumum. Gaskets alone for this job will be over 200 dollars. I am just finishing up my "Budget build" and the budget stretches by the day as you progress thru the process LOL. There stuff I left off this list I am sure others will help out here.

haha ya i understand how the budget slowly increases. My main question was will i be safe with a stock bottom end with 100k miles if i do everything i listed above? Or do you think I should buy some new pistons? I'm only looking for about 400-450hp.

Fast.... I just had my ls6 apart, it has 90k. My crank was damaged so I put a crank in it, new crank bearings, rod bearings, new stock rod bolts....cylinder walls actually looked really good, just needed a slight hone. I did a small cam and a tune at the same time.
I have been roll racing the car pretty hard with my brother and friends nearly every weekend. I am have run into some drivetrain problems and other small things like a wheel bearing.....but engine has performed flawlessly - they seem pretty unbreakable.
