Talking Here we go out from the top LS1 to LQ4 update!!!

Well, I decided to start pulling my engine apart today. Many people say it's a hard task and major pain pulling the engine out of a f-body. I would have to disagree with them. Its going pretty well for me and very simple. I started today at about 2:30pm and quit around 8:15pm. I was able to get one head off. Tomorrow I will have the second head off. Left the A/C, brake lines, and power steering connected.

I'm going back with a 6.0 iron block setup which should be alot of fun. Anyways here are some pics of today's work.

You are probly going to have to drill and tap that boss out for the alternator bracket on that truck block. Ive circled it green in the pic. Use the bracket as a guide, and place a drill bit in the hole so its snug and give it a tap with a hammer to show you the centre. Then drill it out for a 10mm bolt and tap it.

If the block has 2 bolt for alternator, no need, been running mine with 2 bolts for 3+ years, on/off track and DD. No issues, never even had to retighten.

Pulling the heads is a lot easier when you get the motor out BTW...

Dropping the engine is WAY easier than pulling it out of the top. Especially because you can torque everything easier, attach the entire wiring harness outside of the car, and it makes it far easier to clean your engine compartment. When I just put my engine in last week, it took all of 30 minutes to take it from sitting on the floor to having it bolted in the car. I know everyone likes to do things differently, but after seeing it done both ways, I will NEVER even consider taking it out the top. Good luck on your project though, sounds like she'll be a beast!

Default Update!

I was able to work on my car again tonight. I got about 3 hours in tonight.

Got the drivers cylinder head off. Make sure you pull off the exhaust header first makes it much easier to get to the lower bolts.

Took both exhaust headers off. Dropped out stock y pipe.

Removed starter, pulled out most of the air and emissions crap.

Engine is ready to be removed. Just going to unbolt it from the bell housing and pull it out tomorrow. Then pressure wash the engine bay.

Got block ready to primmer then paint chevy red
