The only way to really answer that, would be to actualy do it and have a back to back dyno.
MS3 is not the type of cams that AFR had in mind when designing the heads, TFS 215 would be better suited IMO, or perhaps TSP 215 but I have no data to back that up and I will leave TSP to answer that one.

Pred...

You dispense alot of solid advice but I have to disagree with you on that one....

Some aggressively cammed AFR 205's have done extremely well (with the right complimenting components of course). Over 500 RWHP on one that I recall specifically with a 238/242 cam (XER lobes), and there have been plenty of G5X3/4 stuff that has made 470-490 if you do some digging around.

The key is the AFR heads will make a smaller cammed combination work better, but they wont hurt the performance of a more aggressive package at all....the winning formula is still there. Alot of air thru a conservatively sized extremely well shaped "hole" (which is the only way alot of air will get thru a small port....everything mist be optimized and dialed in from the combustion chamber to the port entry and everything in between including the shape of the valve).

Cheers,
Tony

I was running same cam with the 2.5 LS6s. But I have a -4cc piston( maybe I can start an arguement on stock bottom end to lol). Wasnt there a guy Terminator I think ran a combo like this?

BTW to the Op- why jump on the get a custom cam crowd if you already have a cam that has proven performance?

Perhaps I worded it wrong, I did not mean that it would not work, but more like there are better choices of cams more suited to AFR205s.
Biggest proof was your 224/228/AFR combo that went over 475 rwhp and massive trq undercurve.
Results that I've seen over the years from jumping to big duration cams on AFR205s confirmed to me that if same power can be made with much smaller cams, what is the point going so big and sacrificing driveability, mileage, having to flycut etc...

Also from average results I've seen, TFS 215s seem to enjoy bigger cams with more ease. (don't you have AFR 215 in the works?)

Good to see you around, we miss your valuable input (I do), any new and exciting products from your end. Would there be something in the LS3/L92/LS7 style brewing in the nexus?

Default 205's

If i use the 205's with the ms3 what would be best to mill these hds to?will flycutting pistons be needed,or is a bigger cc gonna work better.I liked the ms3 but you do lose alot dwn low,the drivability did not bother me too much but if i can get more pwr & better drivability lets go'.thanks for all the info!thats what makes this site so good!I have learned alot since my first h/c set up 4.5 yrs ago!now a better set up is in reach due to good used parts from here i want to make sure i pick the rt cam with the awesome knowledge shared! thanks to all.

Yes, milling and flycutting will be required and the use of a .040 gasket benefitial with the dual quench pad of the AFR.
Personaly I would go for 59cc with .080 flycuts, perhaps Tony will emphasise more.
What is the LSA/ICL of your MS3?

Default h/c set up

MS3 IS 112 LSA.THE CAM PAT SPECD IS 239/247...624/624 WITH111LSA+4 ON LSL LOBES WITH HDS AS YOU STATED. This should give me 11.64 sc...8.73 dc.I cannot say enuf of the value & level of knowledge that is shared on this site!thank GOD for technology & people willing to share,as this was not so a short time ago.

Patrick's cam is even more agressive than the MS3 (more overlap), it should gain a bit over the MS3. Where it will gain most is undercurve. And that of course if the install and tuning is done perfectly, paying attention to details and long hours of tuning.

You chose really good heads, now you have to be realistic and think hard about what you wish to achieve and most importantly, how are you going to use this combo. Base your decision on that, since you allready drove a MS3 you know what to expect.

Thank god i am not the only one. I just had the same opportunity. It would be easier to get a custom cam and mill the heads to 62 or so cc than to have to flycut. I have 205's out being milled right now being put together with a custom cam spec'ed for the heads and supporting mods. I said hell no to flycutting.

So here were the options....
Flycut with MS3 - didn't want to do that
Build the bottom end with valve relief pistons. - Nearly 1800.00 in parts alone.
Just install the heads at stock 66cc and have a mismatched setup that will be just okay
Or mill the afr's to 62cc and get a custom spec cam from Tony Mamo - Chose this route

Default Hds

If i only mill to 62cc ,you say no flycuttong is needed with the cam tony chose for you.what kind of trq & pwr is to be expected?i know it is a ballpark # as every combo & dyno will vary.I am in the same boat on $ & building a shortblock.I have a ,67 chevelle wagon in prgress so funds are tight.would love to not have to flycut but the addiction is so bad !if thats what it takes so be it.

Thats what Tony has told me. I dont know about power.... i asked him that and he didn't respond. Cant say i blame him tho. 243 heads and ms3 i did 430hp on the dyno. I would hope at least 30 hp at the wheels. then put on a shot and see near 600. I can keep you informed if you ask for updates.
