hmmm....pics of the original motor are are posted on tc.
http://www.torquecentral.com/showthr...ht=found+knock

Now, like 9 months later, I almost have the new motor ready to go I don't think I will ever put so much money in an aluminum block. the damn things just come apart when something breaks....total waste. The intake, heads and cam were the only things salvagable out of that motor. All the way down to the oil pan and dipstick

Hey, I've done that before!

Iron block engines also get pretty torn up when a rod fails too. In both cases most become scrap metal.

Thats it? Just your shortblock? Amatuer. When my stocker went it took out the crank, put two big holes in the block, a hole in the oil pan and windage, damaged both heads, wasted the stock cam, and had pieces of metal stuck in the intake manifold. Also took out my alternator(?), o2 sensors, crank sensor, lifters, rockers, and some other **** i cant remember. So others have had it worse.

Jesus! Mine has 110,000 miles on it. The only parts I have replaced on the motor is the clutch, water pump and balancer. I did the cam and oil pump while fixing the damage from the damn balancer.

mother f&*#er you did that motor in good. You know the saying goes "If you're gonna do something, do it good" and man did you ever follow that to the T. Now next time you do that make sure that it's not an LS1. Do it to a ford.

yeah...well the only thing you listed it didn't take out was the alternator, and I had just replaced that one No sensors are left, crank was f'ed up BAD. Matter of fact it almost took out the whole crank weight O2's are no good and I bent several stainless valves. Don't even really know if the heads are useable yet...should find out in a few weeks. All of this happened on Thanksgiving weekend.....great weekend.

Actually it took out the alternator too. Read again. I just dont know how the hell it did that. My thermostat died too but the pump was ok but was replaced by an EWP.

I'll be damned!!! I'm thinking my shortblock is going to look like that when i get it the rest of the way out! I had water in my oil and there were no physical "blown" spots on my head gaskets sooooo I'm thinking its gunna look ruff...... but the motor still had 40psi of oil pressure when I shut it off!

mine shut itself off I have to say though. 94k on the clicker and I never sprayed it. It held up to an uncountable # of 6k dumps...helped destroy...not burn up but destroy 3 clutches, and saw the track almost every weekend for 4 solid years. I can't believe that it lasted as long as it did. There is something to be said for the longevity of the ls1 and the abuse they will take.
