I was just wondering what you guys opinion is on how much larger of a camshaft I can fit in my engine. I have standard issue TSP / PRC Stage 2.5 LS6 heads (about a year or two old) with the upgraded 2.02/1.575 stainless valves on my stock 2000 LS1 shortblock. I have the COMP 26921-KIT on the heads (dual valve springs, ti retainers), COMP 7.4 pushrods, LS7 lifters, stock rockers, and stock OEM GM LS1 5.7 MLS head gaskets.

Currently I have a custom ground COMP cam and the specs are 228/232, .588 .598, on an 112LSA XE-R. I want to put a larger camshaft in that will fit without giving me PTV clearance issues. I do not want to take the heads off again to fly cut or whatever so basically the largest cam I can fit with my current set up. Just wanna do a quick cam swap and tune. TSP wasn’t too much help on how much bigger of a cam I could with… probably to save their *** if anything were to go wrong.. which I understand. What do you guys recommend that will be within my PTV clearance? And how much bigger do you think I can go? Thanks

Tough call there. I know I'm not going to be too much help on this issue, but cam duration is the biggest factor there along with VE (valve events). each motor is alittle different and everybody has there own compffert level on how close is too close. with a new cam any bigger then what your currently running I would HIGHLY recommend removing the heads to ALL WAYS check PV cleance.

I'm sure we asked you to check your free valve drop, so that we could know how much more room you have. Without that info, it'd be purely a guess, and more often than not, a very costly one. You can also measure the piston to valve clearance you have now, and we can make an educated recommendation based on that information.

I believe i spoke with you (Matt@TSP) over the phone a few days agao and I did end up finding my TSP receipt for the heads but it has no mention of the specs. It does have a part # and invoice # if that would help? I ordered these heads without your valve spring kit since I had the COMPs.

The thing is, i already have an LME LSX 427 in the process and i just wanna up the cam a little bit to gain some more power on my current stock engine. Not really trying to do much work or spend a lot of money. I understand this is a risk.

ya, don't people run the torquer v2 and ms3 cams with these heads? looks like u got the valve springs to support a larger cam for sure

i have the tqr2 and it fits just fine, but its fairly mild by today's standards(232/234 .595/.598). i'm def not and expert but i think the tsp 233/239 will fit. lift somewhere just north of .600
