Anyone got a certain cam they prefer?
I'm pretty much looking for a cam that makes power, but is still street legal, and still gives a decent sounding idle to it.
Just thought I'd ask for some preferences. I was quite impressed after hearing some MS3's at a car meet I went to last night.

I'm running a Trickflow 238/242 .595/.595 112lsa with my original 241 heads ported, polished and milled .040" and 3,800 stall. Idles at 995 and I absolutly love it.
My cam might be alittle big for some people, but I first had a 220/224 that made more power than stock, but imo was too small. I'd recomend atleast a 228 with a narrow (say 112-110lsa) to anyone to make it worth the work

I agree, my 220/224 .570/.580 112lsa cam drove almost stock with a small bump in power across the board. At first a had a 2,800 stall but it was too small so then went to a 3,800.

As far as the cam goes, does that cam have a decent power increase for a DD cam?

^^^^Thats the cam I have only on a 114. Its a perfect DD cam, power and torque everywhere with no loss of driveability. And a noticeable cam lope, depending on how loud your exhaust is.

Mark, about how much MPG (est.) do you think you get now with the cam you have? I mean not that I care TOO much but I'm just kind of curious to see how much it would affect it. I do happen to have to drive about a 30 minute drive to get to the college I attend right now.

I love my cam. Idle is set at 850 rpms, sounds mean as hell (vid will be up tomorrow hopefully), and made the power in sig. Not bad for almost 100k miles IMO. Cam is a 242/248 111 lsa....drives just fine on the street. But I have heard some mean sounding smaller cams as well, and the 224/224 112 has a decent lope from the vids I have heard, and makes good power.
A4 car, if you aren't just drag racing it all the time, I would go with a smaller cam like in the 22x/22x-23x/23x range for the street.

Don't worry, everybody starts somewhere. I remember when first reading about cams I thought I had a mountain to climb to learn about them. Its really not bad at all, just devote the time to learn. Read the info here on the site, the cam stickies are a good place to start. After a while and reading enough cam threads it will be clear which cam is right for your car.

not directly of it idling, and I will tell you why, my shitty camera always sounded like crap when recording it bc the exhaust is so loud. I do now have a better camera so maybe it will do better with sound. I will try to get one later today.

Yeah that 224/224 112 LSA cam sounded good and I have heard it's a good DD cam. Plus the dyno chart on the TR website said it made about 390-400 rwhp (depending on what else you have done). I mean I'm not looking for anything TOO radical like a TReX or anything too light. I'm quite impressed with this cam I dug up but I'll see how the future plays out. I might race it a little. I mean with all that power, who wouldn't? lol :p

And a Trex isn't too radical

:roflmao: :roflmao:. My dad is more a domestic guy then my Japanese/American mother (he had chevelles and impalas growing up, now a F350 KR and a , where as my mother had a CRV before she got her '05 Civic), so I guess thats where. I look more Mexican then Jap, but my friends know of my herritage, so I caught a bunch of **** for getting a muscle car lol. I just love fast cars though, too include clean imports.

Hmmmm well I heard a TReX was radical as hell. And you have to have a 4000 stall for it. Please tell me the good news lol. If it is good enough news then I might consider a TReX.
