Default 806 switch to 241's beneficial?

As the title states, is there any benefit to me switching from 806 to 241 heads? Got a good deal available, and they are milled to bump compression. Thanks

personally i wouldnt do it. the cost of new bolts and gaskets and coolant, wouldnt really appeal to me for maybe 8 horsepower. save up for some better heads

Well, you would have to switch a couple things. For one the valve covers are different, center vs. perimeter. I think the coil brackets are too. Just get those 806's milled/ported/lapped and upgrade the valves and springs and you will have a lot more power. I bet you would see 35rwhp give or take 5rwhp.

They are slightly better design. He should just get them ported and if they are done properly should be just under an LS6 ported.

Regardless the difference isn't enough to justify the cost of the swap unless they have been ported.

have you priced head bolts, gaskets, coolant, time, effort, ect?

I don't even think stock 243 heads justify the hassle. Ported heads or its not worth doing unless you have to pull the heads for something else or they have a problem.

yea man i did the same thing as you but ported them for almost 35 hrs...yea it worked a little but they maybe flow 20cfm more then stock....but as stated above by time you add the fluid bolts and gaskets it almost becomes a waste...

-241 heads brand new...200 shipped
-porting heads 35 hrs and a pain in the neck....tool to port....120
-head gaskets....140
-head bolts....50 per side...100
-so almost 550 for everything.....GAIN= maybe 25 rwhp

so i think if i would have just slaped some texas speed heads on her id have a nice set of proven heads that worked for more then a couple thousand miles...my head now cracked...lol

i had major valve float on my 853's and my seals were goin bad, so for me since i had the heads sitting in my garage it wasn't any hassle for me to clean em and put all the new parts into em

don't get me wrong i know what your saying but to say 241 wont get you anything it's just plain stupid. OP if you have the money buy some 243's and have them ported, if you don't have the money then really it's up to you

yup like i said, they can be made to be bad *** but imo your better off picking up a fresh set, and stock 243's would b a nice touch too...but with my experience my combo only did 11rwhp more then the ticks polluter car. i just look at the 35 hours i ported and all that for 11hp?

your heads also craked after a few thousand miles, not to say anything bad about you but maybe the person who was doin the porting doesn't really know exactly what their are doing

^^^trust me you are 100% correct brother...ive learned tons about head porting in the last few years, so much i decided to do the heads...lol but the heads did perform very well, way better then i had ever thought but i did make some booboos one of witch killed the heads. on the intake side, right head i ported thru the water jacket and welded it back together nobody in a million years would have been able to see it but that weld broke im guessing because the lack of power and antifreeze in my exhaust and not in my oil...

If your going to do any stock for stock head swap for an LS1 and its going to be N/A 243s are your best bet hands down.
