Port my 243s or save up and buy new..
Tryin to do this on a budget..prob wont be able to do it for a while now..doing a rearend and suspension this winter but anyway..
Iv got the MS4 and stock 243s. Car put down 424/370 or so..I would like to get as much as possible with just a head swap or porting.
With the MS4..I know Iv got the PTV issue..soo If I dont mill my heads just port them, got a machine shop that can do them for a good price(frequent shopper discont I guess)
Could I see another 25-35 horse from that?
OR what heads would work with out flycutting my pistons and make maybe 450-460 to the tire..
I want a true heads cam car..To me if you fly cut the pistons..your not a heads cam car..

I have my heads done, I gave them everything, heads (243s), springs, retainers, locks. The cam I got from Ed Curtis is pretty close to the MS4 in specs they milled the heads .005 and I am still running full 64CC chamber & 10.5:1 compression. I have no issues w/ ptv but I would measure and not take any ones word for it, am sure am singing to the quire about that though. And yes i picked up 30 rwhp.

Your not going to get 25-30 rwhp just buy porting the heads, look at spending the money elsewhere, gear's, converter traction device's etc.....And your still a h/c car even with flycutting the piston's

I had new stock 243's not installed and sold them and got $1050 PRC 1.0 heads. It ended up costing me $400 to do that upgrade. A lot better than spending $1000 to port the 243's even though I might have seen another 5hp going that route. I think the PRC 1.0's are worth 45rwhp over 241's and 20-25rwhp over 243's.

I noticed your running a .563 lift cam, did you change the springs?

My point exactly if you have all your own equipment, you know exactly what is going in the heads. If you have the 243s already half the battle is over. Texas Speed, TEA or Advanced Induction (AI) can do a great CNC and port work for very little money if you supply all the parts. I have had great work done to my heads by AI in more than one occasion so I am biased but you can go on line, places like Ebay and get new springs, & rods at a discount. You can go to rockauto.com and get stock equipment (which LS6 valves are) at a 50 to 60% discount. You can contact Gaterman products and get a set of new stock LS1/LS6 lifters for $100 which I am using and I am very happy. You can save a lot of money in the long run and using top of the line equipment with a top of the line company that work on heads. This is though the one place you do not want to skimp on your valve train. Is better to save and do it right the first time than to go ahead try to buy something cheap and pay a lot more down the road.
The choice is yours.

Im afraid to mill them really..If the motor ever has to come out then I wouldn worry but I dont want to fly cut unless I have to..but then I can up the compression adn do port work..and that sould be some more numbers to the tire..
