Default Heads?

So i have a patriot performance 225/229 114+4 cam in my car. I have headers, exhaust, tb, maf, lid, bbk intake. I was wondering if i would notice a big diffrence in gains from stock heads? Anyone have experience with this cam? Whats a good fully assembled head to look at and make the most power? dont have alot of money to feal with so help me out please!

Get the Patriot heads if you are on a budget.

If you are on a budget, look at the PRC ls6 or 5.3 stage 2.5 heads. They are getting good reviews and are making good power. Check them out on TSP.

with that cam, even a budget set of heads should yield 30hp.

If you're low on funds have your stock heads ported. I run cam smaller than yours and put down some decent numbers and the port work was only 500 bucks compared to spending over 1K for a new set.

225/229 is an odd grind that you don't see show up too often. I think that Patriot must have rounded the numbers up from 224/228. Either way, properly ported heads will get you some more power, you will probably be able to feel it too.

Here is a thread that they were talking about that cam with stock heads (243), but if you port your current or get a set of ported you will probably pass those 243's up by a good 5-10.

He just meant the trend has changed from everyone running the 224 cam. People are running high 230's and MagicSticks on stock heads with headers and a quick tune these days. Nothing wrong with your cam at all. If you like it and it works for you, then that is all you need. Just because it gets labled as "outdated" doesnt mean it just stops working. haha!

i was just thinking of maybe getting a set of stock 243's and having them ported and polished and put new springs etc on them, but in the end it would probably cost just as much as ordering new ones from Texas Speed or somewhere that are already built?

If you think about it, and I have said it before, the CNC program is the same one they run on all LS1/6 heads. Your 241's and 853's will be the same head with a different casting number on it after they get worked on a CNC machine. probably about 400-500$ per head. Do your valve upgrade at that time, have the valves properly lapped, and get your cleanup mill maybe a .003 or .005 just for kicks.
