Thinking about Hotcam. Opinions?
First off, I have a 2001 Trans Am WS6 M6 with GMMG chambered catback, LS1 Motorsports Air lid. I've been looking into getting a cam. I want a real lopey, or at least noticeable idle, good power, drivable, and pass emmisions. The cam I am looking at right now is the hotcam (219 227 112 LSA). What do you think about this cam? Will it have a noticeable lobe and rumble at idle and make decent power? What are the advantages of this cam? Is it true that this cam won't void your warranty and be easy on the springs? Will it need tuning? Would a 224 224 112 lsa lobe just as much and be just as good for what I want? Give me your knowledge and opinions please! Thanks a lot!
PS-Along with the installation of this cam, I would also put in a set of Longtube headers with catted Y pipe, and an ASP underdrive pulley. I'm looking to idealy try to make 380 Hp to the rear wheels with this setup, would this be possible? If not, what else would I need to make this happen?
Sorry for asking so much, I appreciate your info, Thanks!

I made 381 rwhp/373 rwtq untuned with the Hotcam untuned. Most people on here hate, loathe, and despise it. There are other cams that will make more power and idle better, but you tend to have to spin the motor higher. I have been very happy with mine. I wold incourage you to do a search and read as much as possible before making a decision.

i would agree the hot cam is also easy on the valvetrain and does make good power and you do not have to turn this cam alot of rpms also it chop hard.Do a search on steve98z and look at the hot cam sound clip he posted when you pull up his name its under (surely after two years it is not true)

I can spin thru third gear w/o traction ie drag radials I'm actually faster with the TCS on I've run guys with the 224 cam and they don't pull on me, it sounds bad and is easy on the springs. This cam gets a bad rap but for the money I'm happy, sounds bad and with the right partscan hang with the higher revving cams dyno numbers don't mean squat. Just my opinion.

I have a buddy that has a '01 Z28 MN6, hotcam, headers, airlid, cutout on nittos that ran 12.20 in the 1/4 with no tuning. It's a bad azz cam. It's even faster since we tuned it. We expect it to be an 11 sec hotcam car for under $1k in mods.

the 220 and 224 cams are good cams aswell. I know you want to make it as close to a Blackbird as possible but their are other cams that are in that same area that make better HP and are still easy on springs.

I 've had my hotcam installed for awhile now, and I still love it. The idle is music to my ears http://www.tatommy.com/images/hotcam exhaust.wmv
And the power band suits my needs. It is easy on springs, inexpensive (relatively speaking), and I am using good ol' reliable LS6 springs that came with the kit....
To those who want to see the highest PEAK hp numbers from a cam, hotcam is not good, but for usable power (especially for daily driving), it is great.

Thats too funny!! Its Sticky that fast!
But anyway, I have one coming. The first cam I broke down and bought was the G5X-2 but after the talk of springs with that cam, I decieded it wasn't the cam for me so i sold it before the install happened. So then i figured what the hell, my old LT1 hot cam went mid 12's on hp and mid 11's on the gas with home ported heads so it can't be that bad of a cam for the LS1!!
How about that Mr. Sanders?

My STOCK cam with STOCK heads went 11.82 NA on 17" drag radials, in a full weight car, with 3.23 gears and a measly 3500 stall. I guess the stock cam is better than the Notcam since it doesn't need nitrous AND ported heads to run 11s.

Ok, I can't resist...so I'll post again my smartass comments from earlier this month. Teeheehee...

Now I tell myself that I won't pick on the wittle "Hot"cam ---> <snicker> each and everytime it comes up and I usually fail. But not this time! No sirreeeee Bob, you'll hear nothing from me about this turd of a...uhhm...I mean, this fine little budget cam who's specs were so cleverly copied straight from the pages of GM's LT1 Hotcam. Nope, not going to do it this time. Why, I couldn't even be enticed to debate the qualities of the Notcam even if it were somehow absurdly campared to that stellar epitome of camshaft technology that we've all grown to love or fear...yes, that great sequoia grown from the seed of my own vision...the one, the only, the ever venerable...Stealth Cam! LOL!
I'm just kidding ya'll so don't get your panties in a wad. It makes good power for the $$$ and there's nothing wrong with that. "
