Need help Diagnosing a engine tick??
Not to sure but I am thinking its a collapsed lifter, the sound does get faster with more rpm. Check the video below.
Dont mind the squealing belt. LOL

Was the engine cold? Mine does that when it's cold but goes away when warmed up. I'm pretty sure it's piston slap. Mine doesn't eat a drop of oil and runs awesome, so I'm not overly worried.

No its not cold. It could be piston slap, but its never done that before and I bought the car with 58k on it and now its got over 135k. Plus it does use a little oil. About 1/2 quart or so between oil changes.

That's not piston slap.. Sounds either like a severly bent push rod or a collapsed lifter. But it also sounds like it is ticking at crank speed..
IMO, doesn't sound good.
What were you doing when you THINK it may have happened? I remember what I did when I bent a push rod last time.

UPDATE. Just took off the valve cover and the rockers seem to be just fine. No damage from what I can see and they are secured properly. I am really thinking its a lifter.
It started making the noise after a few pulls on the street with a 150 shot. Now mind you I have been spraying the car for 80k and no issues and yes the car has been tuned for it and the plugs were fresh.

No it doesnt seem to be lacking any power at all. Kinda stumped. I want to start pulling it apart but at the same time I really dont feel like going through all that effort right now if the motor is that damaged...

If you pull the VC's again, check the pushrod play. Rotate them to see if they're bent and try to pull them up and down to check for a collapsed lifter.
Too bad you didn't have access to a bore-o-scope. Pull the plugs on that side and see if there's anything abnormal in the cylinders.

Well I started pulling the motor apart. The plugs look normal, no play in the rockers. I got the intake off and then started working on getting the exhaust off and low and behold I had water in the exhaust and it smells like coolant. NOT GOOD!!! Havent pulled the heads yet but looking like I blew a gasket and didnt even know it. Probably got a good amount of coolant in the cylinder and spun a bearing is my guess...
