What kind of car? On a corvette you have to remove the steering rack. Nothing hard but it adds another hour or so, maybe more like 7-8 hours.

if they have tried ripping you off once they will most likely do it again, just my experience

they do excellent work for the better prices then any other shops. I have done many things with them from n20 kits engine swaps to regular old things. Its just it always seems to take them forever to do it.

There is a difference in how long it will take them and how many hours they are charging you. Don't pay extra because they are slow. Compare the labor hours that other shops charge.

5 hours if they do them all the time... 8-10 if they do it sometimes but not every week...10-16 hrs if they do them like once every few months...
longer than 16hrs if they have no idea what they are doing..

I have personally done half a dozen cam changes in my various cars... I can do it in my own limited space garage with my personal set of tools in about 6-8 hours...just me..no help

and if they tell you its gonna cost $1000...they are ripping you off..
shops that do them often will be in the $450-$700 range for a cam swap

Disreguarding tuning just the pure labor of the cam install 6 hours is a good average covering the different platforms

There is no way it takes 5 hours from start to finish on an f-body with 1 person working on it.

Is your complaint that they take too long to get to the job, or that the job takes to long once they start and they overcharge you? Big difference. Once they get to it, it should take less than a day.

I'd be more concerned with thoroughness, accuracy, and the quality of the work rather than speed. Anybody can be fast, not everybody can be good.

There's also other factors that play into this job that most speedy gonzales parts installers don't do. Checking PTV clearance, shimming springs for proper application requirements from the camshaft, degreeing the cam, etc.
