Default Can an ALUM. 5.3 be bored to 3.898 bore?

Can an aluminum 5.3 be safely bored to 3.898". I've done a search on this website and the debate was not conclusive. Then I did a Google search and different sites report different answers. Even Hot Rod Magazine has conflicting remarks. Way back in 2003, Hot Rod reported that the aluminum 5.3 was an LS6 block design that could be safely bored to 3.9". In this months Hot Rod in the Question and Answer segment called Pit Stop, it's reported that the aluminum 5.3 could only handle an overbore of .010". I have an aluminum 5.3 that I was planning an LS6 style build using Patriot LS6 ported heads. Undecided on the cam but the foundation of my build was the assumption that the block could be safely bored to 3.898". I need to purchase my forged pistons soon and really could use a definitive answer. Can anyone help?

Nope, the cylinder walls aren't thick enough.

This is exactly why I'm asking. I have both a 5.3 iron and an aluminum block. The sleeves appear to be identicle but I'm just using a machinist steel ruler. Ultimately, I will have it sonic checked but it would be great if I could hear from someone who has done it.

They probably have and I know we have as well. Can you send me a pic of the top of that block and I can tell you. If it has the super thick sleeves then yes you can bore it to 5.7 size.
