Default How much power you gain going from 370 to 408

Just wanted to know if its worth building a 408 and just selling my 370 how much power would you gain on the 408. This is a nitrous motor spraying a 300 shot d.p kit.

That's a loaded question because a lot of how power is made in an engine comes down to how your build is put together.

Can you see a big difference yes you can can it hold more than a 370 yes it can would I do the swap if it was up to me yes I would. Remember nothing beats displacement.

I don't think anybody can answer that, too many variables. No replacement for displacement though.

Same heads and similer cam 40ci should be worth 50-60 hp.

I went from a 302 to a 408 with the same heads and the same guy doing the cam and picked up 16 mph and 1.6 in e.t.

I agree. I just thought about getting a few more cubes would push me deeper in the 9s. I had a very mild tune with my 370 full weight car and still got into the 9s. I just wanted to see if someone had a 370 then went to a 408

Its all in the setup. Some people 408s make less power than 370's. Figure how much more hp its going to take to run the ET's you want and do your research on parts and do it right. You will see nice gains.

More displacement is ALMOST always going to increase your TORQUE output, pending that you have a good combination of parts to take advantage of it. Max hp would increase as well, but I don't think it would be that significant of an increase, compared to the torque gain.

This theory is pretty much the way it goes for NA engines...when you start throwing Nitrous Oxide in the mix, then of course that theory goes out the window...

If you run the same heads and cam, expect about the same HP (give or take) at a lower rpm. The exception would be if your current heads/cam were too big for the current displacement.

How does your car hook now? More torque might have you fighting for traction, or might cause you to delay the N2O hit, or use a progressive controller.

I havent had it dynoed. But with the custom grind cam and I had the heads touched up it runs 11.07 with a nitrous stall andcam probally would be a high 10sec with na stall. I would guess around the 450 range. Im running 116 with a 12-4 compression

I do agree that the torque of a well built 408 will increase greatly over the 370 with a nice HP gain too. However,a 370 with all the right parts being hit with a 300 shot has to be making over a 700 torque number to the wheels already. Just how much torque can your suspension handle before traction becomes a major issue?

Im fine off the line I probally could go with more power off the line. I have a window switch just in case it doesnt. Im going to use the same cam or have cam motion grind a new one.

Good point...useable torque and useable traction is another topic

Its all about flow and how its built.. I have seen a 370 that puts down 450rwhp and I have seen one that put down 520rwhp... Same with 408's.. I have seen anywhere from 450-580rwhp.. it really is all about the build... But assuming all is constant (exact same heads, piston dish, cam, etc..) then going from a 370-408 might pick you up 20-30rwhp but then again its hard to say because all builds differ..
