It will be fine. Just make sure you change the oil pump while you are at it!

Not to thread hijack, this might help the OP as well. But I have 119k on the clock. With a cam swap what other componets should you upgrade besides the springs and pushrods and oil pump? Lifters or injectors?

my motor has 130,000 on it and i am gonna do a cam change soon. i would just change the following things while you are at if for safe measure and smooth operation:

Timing chain (LS2 chains are pretty cheap and pretty strong)
oil pump (LS6 ported and shimmed is best bet)
valve springs
and ofcoarse a new cam

that is what i am changing and it is just for good measure.

trans_am7935 has it right. You just want to make sure you upgrade all the parts that are related to the cam. Valvesprings and pushrods are a given to upgrade but optional the stuff like oil pump, timing chain, and possibly lifters should really go into the motor. We have a number of customers running head and cam with +150,000 miles, just need to make sure everything gets upgraded.

I would without a doubt put in a new set of lifters with that many miles. They arent going to like the aggresive ramps and the higher springs pressures (along with RPM) that the cam is going to have.

Just my 2 cents.

So for 119k miles you think I will be ok with the stock lifters?

The obvious timing chain, a def on the lifters, springs, and rockers. Probably a good idea to do oil pump too.

Why rockers? It would suck to take the heads off to do lifters too.

what happens if you spin a bearing with your new found rev happy foot? just a thought. thats why im rebuilding my 211k mile motor. just because i couldnt live with myself if i put a bunch of money in this tired engine just for it to go boom.

i still say go for it, but do all the precautions you can. i pulled my valve covers here a few weeks ago and they were filled with sludge. thats my reason for not chancing anything. if the heads looked that bad the bottom end for sure aint happy. id pull the covers and take a peek inside.

whatever you end up with good luck!

Yeah, it does suck to have to take the heads off to change the lifters, but I agree with TooLate...

I would change the valve springs, oil pump and go with a double roller chain and sprocket set. ----safe insurance!

I put a cam in mine at ~100k, along with new ls6 springs, ls2 chain, comp 7.4 pushrods, and a new oil pump. I've got ~147k on it now. The biggest concern that I have with it is that I want to floor it all the time. The cam won't do anything to the engine, but it will probably ensure that you're going to find the rev limiter a whole lot more often in the near future. Reving the crap out of a stock bottom end with a lot of miles sometimes makes me nervous... but it hasn't stopped me from doing it

Is ported LS6 oil pump necessary? Can I just replace my LS1 oil pump to LS6 oil pump and call it a day?

Yep. The ls6 pumps don't have the problematic issues that are associated with the early ls1 pumps.
