Default Hydraulic Cam & Solid Lifters ???

I called Comp Cams & was on hold for 45 minutes, so I never received an answer... The cam I'm running is a custom grind...
LS1 4423F / 4858F SR112.0
Int Exh
Adv Dur 287 292
Dur@.050 259 252 Lobe Sep 112.0
Valve Lift .591 .589

I have the adjustable Pro Magnum 1.75 roller rockers & the Comp 850 lifters... I also had the 26918 springs, but upgraded to the Comp dual spring kit and noticed on the re-assembly I had collapsed lifters... The Question is, why can't I run solid Lifters ???

I don't remember all the technical stuff, but it has to do with lobe design. I remember that cams are treated differently for different applications. I think solid lifter cams have a harder surface to withstand the solid lifter while roller lifter cams are softer since the lifter rolls in the lobe. I will have to look it up but I remember something along those lines. Why not buy LS7 lifters? they are not too expensive. I am sure some one here with more knowledge will chime in soon. Good Luck

The solid lifters also have the rollers on them. The comp 850's are the ones giving problems, and I wanted to upgrade to solids, or the comp 875 promagnums. I just don't want to screw it up ! That cam has some Serious ramp going on. The operating range is 4000 to 7400 rpm...

I'm pretty sure it's lobe design. Unlike hydraulic lifters, solid lifters use lash clearance. In solid lifter cams, theres an area in the lobe right as the valve cracks open that is slower to keep the rocker from beating up the valve too badly when it takes up that clearance. Hydraulic cams don't have that.

So, I might be better off to get the Comp 875's or the limited travel Morells for miminal preload...
I had to set the Comp 850's at "0" lash because a few were pumped up, holding the valves open at idle... I never had that happen before. That experimental 350 shot at the end of last year might have had something to do with it... LOL !!!

I have the 850's now, and the new short travel part number is 15850... That will confuse people in the future !
