Default Which valvespring to run?

I recently suffered a broken valvespring. I don't know what spring was on the car, but it wasn't the stock spring. I do know that originally an set of Comp 918's (old design) were installed and they didn't hold up and lost pressure, then my current springs (single, non behive) were installed and performed fine, until i broke one while autoxing the car. I was lucky that I didn't drop the valve.

So which spring a set of Patriot Golds? Comp 921's or Manley Nextek's #221436?

My cam is an older MTI B1 grind which is small by today's standards 558/558 221/221. These are going into a set of Cartek stage 2 heads with Manley valves.

Thanks

Patriot golds are most cost effective. TSP sells some great spring kits as well. I wont run a single spring, but if a double breaks, generally you still have time to fix it before the secondary spring lets go.

I agree with running the double spring. Are the Patriot springs as good as the others from a durability standpoint?

I would look into the PAC springs as well.

The PAC springs are a little more pricey, but they are all good durable springs. The Patriots come in a kit, the Gold is normally in the $240-$255 range and the Extremes are in the $275 - $295 range. The Pac 1221 and 1521 are fairly comparable to those springs. They are normally sold just as the springs themselves although we can put them together in kits with the seats and seals, locks and retainers. The 1521 is the nitrided big brother of the 1221 for the most part (a little stiffer on the seat and open), but offer really good open/closed pressures and good durability. They run $215 and $290 respectively for just the spring kit.

If you need anymore info, just let me know. We carry all of these on hand as well as many other kits including the Comp Kits and the new Lunati Kits. The Lunati seem to be rising in popularity recently.

Since its not a monster cam, any of the ones you listed or the PAC's will be good. I would say use whichever you can get at the best price...IMO.

The Manley Nexteks are nice, but they are a little more dollar signs than the previously mentioned springs for a few of the styles. Very good spring though.

If you want a single spring the PAC is a great option. If your looking for the safety of a double then the PRC spring kits are pretty hard to beat. The new PRC spring kits will provide you with a longer spring life compared to the old gold/platinum spring combo & costs the same as the old gold/platinum kits!!
