Default What about a 408 with MS4 and 799 heads

What do you guys think about this? 408 with -2cc flat top pistons with untouched 799 heads and MS4 cam. I know the MS4 is a donkey dick for the 346, but on the 408 wouldn't it be considered a more mild cam, like a 230ish on a 346?

Engine flooded and locked up engine on Wednesday. I was trying to avoid the road that was flooded and wait it out in a parking lot. When I went for the parking lot, that side of the road was deeper than the water I would of traveled through. Water flew across hood and right into the engine instantly locking it up. Trying to evaluate my cheap options and going for an LQ4/9 block that is cleaned up and assembled with TSP's 408 stroker kit.

Thoughts? Maybe power guesses?

Also, the LS6 intake will have to do for now, as I am trying to keep this as cheap as possible and use my current top end IF nothing is damaged, ie valves, or anything. The LS6 will be OK for now right? Until I can get a FAST setup down the road.

If money is tight I'd go with the cubes & then add ported cylinder heads down the road. It's a lot easier to swap heads than it is to add cubes!!

Definitely, my priority is larger displacement but insurance check is the limiting factor, maybe I can end up with a 370 or 383 at the minimum. Not sure yet.

Did you get my PM?

If your tight on $ sounds like a good plan. + it should have plenty of torque on the low - mid rpm range.

The real big bummer is the Mac Mids. They were OK for the 346, obviously LTs would be better on the current setup, but its not leaving too much on the table. Now I have a feeling they will play a larger role in choking the engine

If you can get the 408, do it up, add different or ported heads, a FAST, and LTs down the road.

I have a MS3 in my 408, and also reused the PRC 2.5 5.3's from my old setup. There is nothing wrong with reusing the topend you have now, just that it isn't going to make that true 408 power until you get LTs and FAST to go along with it for sure. It is pretty damn cool though, I start the car up and if I don't tell anyone that there is a 408 in there. They have no idea and can be a good sleeper in a way. Mine is a little stealthier because I have a 114LSA with the MS3.

But considering, old setup-MS3,PRC 2.5,ported FAST92,Hooker 1 3/4" LTs and I made somewhere in the 435whp and maybe 390wtq region most likely (never going to know, spun a rod bearing breaking the setup in. That seems to be the average though.).

Same setup in a 408 with -2cc Wisecos and headers swapped to ARH 1 7/8's made 508whp/479wtq. Go with a 408 unless you plan on force-inducting the 370 bro. Like said above, there is no replacement for displacement.
