Default Looking for some advice

Hi. I am new to the world of being an LS1 owner. I just got my 2000 SS a couple months ago and now it is time for a few changes. After reading around at some different forums, it seems that you guys are the most knowledgable. My main goal is to run high 11's - low 12's with stock heads and no power adders. I was thinking a set of long tubes, ls6 intake, and all the little bolt ons like a lid along with a set of 4.10's. Will that be enough or will i need to get a cam. A better question is should i get the cam anyway or it wont make a big differnce. Any info will be deeply appreciated, cuz i feel bad takin a car apart with only 8000 miles unless im gonna do it right.

Thanks

yes you will need a cam unless you wanna drop a lot of weight. There are many dailyd/streetable cams that throw up big numbers.
i would check out the new LSx intake as well

welcome to the site

Welcome. My car is your target basically.

Get a cutout, lid, 4.10's, Nitto's, Long Tubes, Y-pipe and a TSP231/237 cam -You're there.

You can go a bit smaller on the cam also, like a 228/228, but I happen to like the big cam- it lopes hard.

you dont need a cam to go low 12s high 11s

my boy with his 98 z28 has done 12.1
headers, nocats, catback, pulley, 3400 converter, 3.42s in a stock 10 bolt nothin more
with an ls6 intake and a ported tb and a tune he will have 11.90s for sure but his 60fts are mid to high 1.6

my best time with my 6 speed 2002 is 12.40 @ 112 with a 1.96 60ft clutch slipin
best mph is 12.51 @ 115.5 with a 1.94 60ft tires blazin
lid, catback, nitto
with headers, pulley, ported tb, clutch i sould hit some 11s

a cam would be nice but you dont need it for what you want
get an ls6 intake, headers, gears, pulley and a good clutch and you sould be alright for low 12s

and yes we are at full wieght
i weigh 3420 withg out me in it
my friend weighs 3400 with out him

Piston slap is not related to the cam--it is caused by the cylinder bore being too large for the pistons.

As jerflash said, you don't need the cam to meet your goal. However, since you are a 6 speed, meeting your goal without a cam will largely be determined by whether or not you can drive it.
