Default Help choose my cam...choices have been narrowed

In the next few months I will be installing the following:

Patriot Performance Stage II 5.3L heads
LS6 Intake Manifold
Ported Throttle body
and a cam
I currently have the K&N FIPK, MAC headers, and Lane's 2.5" dual exhaust w/ x-pipe. Stock 3.42s and M6.

Which cam is best suited to these heads?

Thunder Racing 224/224 .561/.561 112 or 114

Futral Motorsports 226/226 .575/.575 112 or 114

I will primarily use this car on the street as a daily driver. I make about 2-3 trips to the dragstrip a year. Don't really road race. I would like it to lope some but not so much that I have driveability problems. Budget is a concern, so the PP 5.3L heads are a must.

224 224 is a good choice, but I really do think you will switch to something bigger in the future. With the tuning knowage out there you can get a G5X2 to idle without a problem.

I'm going to guess you will see almost no difference in power, performance or anything between the two.

Call ESP, they have a custom grind that makes GREAT power and is very streetable. i forget the exact specs, but it isnt crazy, and the cars love them.

I use my car for the street yet want an emissions capable more powerful car..

I'm choosing the 224/224 .563 114lsa baby cam!

Should put out 400rwhp 380lb/ft of torque and a nice curve.

Thats 450 flywheel horsepower..

I'd go with the TR224 cam. I ran a TR220 when I had Patriot stage II 5.3's and it made 416rwhp 392rwtq with that baby cam! TR makes some very potent cams, the TR224 is probably the best "little" cam out there. I don't think I have ever read of anyone not being happy with it's performance.

I never really suggest a bigger cam, BUT. You have a very nice intake and exhaust set up. I think you should go with a TSP 231/237. It sounds awsome and with those heads you will be in great shape. Gears would help alittle with that cam also.

Thanks for the replies guys. I am still torn. I would like to keep the same rear gears, as I will be switching to an aftermarket T-56 with different ratios in the 1-4 gears. Tranny will be geared similar to the Z06...maybe a little steeper.

It sounds like I could pick either cam and be . I think the 231/237 is a little to steep for me...I don't think it will have the low end driveability I am looking for.

Hmm...which one is the better dyno queen, and which one is actually faster?

I agree with 383ss.
A 112 LSA may peak slighly sooner than a 114, but probably not enough to notice any difference.
