what is the safest the piston can come out of the block?

Default what is the safest the piston can come out of the block?

I've heard it can come out up to 5 thousandths..

anyone have any ideas?

Mine are coming out about .010. I read a post a while back and a guy was running .015 out but that is as far as I have seen. From what I have been told anything under .010 should be fine.

Mine run out .020".I'm running thick gaskets though.

Are thick gaskets an okay way to solve that, or you run into "dirty" spots in the combustion chamber like that?

Which head gaskets are you running.. not that far out, but not far off..

Rubber coated copper made by Flatout Gaskets. They are .062" thick.

.007-.010" out of the hole is what factory is. You can go about .015" out max. I would try to keep it around the factory spec's.

Chris what are the negative effects if I'm at .017 and runner a slightly larger head gasket, .060 layered steel gasket?
